History

Cain Marko is Xavier's half-brother, and also a mutant whose powers were awakened by mysticism. At some point, he was defeated by Xavier and incarcerated in a high-security prison under the supervision of Captain Stone. He was permanently submerged in a cellular paralysis biofluid to prevent him from breaking out, although Mystique managed to free him on several occasions.[1]

Juggernaut was released so that Mystique could steal Cerebro while he attacked Professor X. However, he had carelessly destroyed the Cerebro, which led to her insulting him, which in turn made him angry enough at her that the X-Men and the Brotherhood were forced to join forces in order to save their teachers from Cain. After this he was returned to his containment cell.[1]

Later, his prison unit was sabotaged by Mystique to draw Xavier away from the institute: Xavier's presence was required to keep Juggernaut out of action while the prison was repaired. Although Juggernaut was kept sedated throughout the procedure and did not escape, Mystique used Xavier's absence to successfully steal a data disk with information on all of the X-Men and New Mutants.[2]

During another escape from his prison, he went on a rampage while Xavier was left in his place in stasis in prison, leaving the X-Men to stop him from attacking a dam. He is defeated when Cyclops unleashes the full power of his optic blasts against their foe, giving Rogue a chance to steal some of his power. She then throws him into the air, allowing Iceman to freeze him into a block of ice.[3]

  • Instead of his powers originating from the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak, like in mainstream, his powers come from him being a mutant, although they were dormant until he awakened them through mysticism.
