Seriously though, abandoning that useless secret identity is what allowed Simonson to go full epic on his run. He turned Thor comics from Goldilocks Superman knock-off to a true Epic Poem told in panels.

The good things (Simonson, Straczynski, Aaron's first run) are after Blake goes away, not before.

But i'm not such a fan of Thor, actually. I just think that the fact he had to hit the ground with the staff and transform was cool. And too epic/fantasy things aren't my type of things, especially regarding comics. I prefer classic dynamics (chasing criminals, defeating super villains...) or mystic/occult stuff, like exorcists or magicians

Honestly I wouldn't trade things like Mjolnir's Song, the Surtur Saga, The Executioner's Last Stand, the Ballad of Beta Ray Bill and so on for a guy knocking a cane on the ground.

I have no idea but the latest thing I have read where he is Donald Blake is the Black Galaxy saga epic collection from 1966 so maybe the 70s because I have some 80s Thor issues and Blake isn’t in it
