This is a post I’ve been doing for about half a week now. About different mutants.
Today’s mutant is Shadow Cat (Kitty Pryde):
What do you like about the character?
What do you not?
Anything you wish they would do with the character?

Hold up did Kitty just call that man the N-WORD?!?!?!?!
Yes but she was saying it to make a point about not being derrogatory.
IT doesn't matter what she meant that is a racial slur. Used to put my people, my brothers and sisters in place. I don't care if she was trying to make a point.
Well yeah but see thats the thing
He called her a mutie, a derrogatory term used to oppress the mutant kind.
So she pointed out they he in fact does not like being called an N word, thus he should not use terms like mutie.
The point of it was to combat intersectional racism. Its like if a black person is being racist to an asian person, how is that helpeful? Thats the point she is making.
Essentially "you don't like racism towards you so don't be racist towards me"
Just switch the word. Mutie isn’t racist, but it is derogatory. You have to Put it into perspective. Racism- A belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.
In marvel mutants are a race. They were actually made in marvel as a symbol for racism. Mutie is a term used as a pejorative towards mutants, much like the N-word towards black people. In this seen you see three people openly discriminating against a mutant (an oppressed race). The mutant, stands up for herself and leaves. To re-imagine this it could be simply revisioned as three white guys call a black man an N word.
Anyways, the point wasnt for kitty to try and be racist. The point was her to stand up against racism, which is what she did.
Your right. I forgot about what mutants were made for/their purpose. Sorry with everything going on in this country I got a little heated:
The point of it was that is not ok to use derogatory and discriminatory words against someone maliciously. Its not ok to use the N word, or the F word towards queer people, or the C word towards women, or the any of the other many discriminatory words. Further, anyone of these discriminated minority groups really shouldnt make hypocrits of themselves by actively discriminating others. Essentially, kitty was standing up for herself against a racist by showing him he was being a hypocrite. He was discriminating her based on race but didn't like feeling the same towards himself, thus being a hypocrit. Its a very loaded panel.
But yeah you're right, its volitile out there.
What do you think?
