If hes not even a part of the army then he wouldnt know a lot of the real intel that came in. Like I said, things would go differently if he was, but assuming hes not hed probably be in the same place as most Americans til the end of the war grew near. Besides, lets be real. If Steve was aware of some of the worst war crimes of WW2, which I assume he wasnt given it wasnt addressed, he would probably step away from supporting America altogether. I know even wikipedia can sure you the more graphic details. You need to keep in mind that while a lot is still kept undwr the wraps today, media coverage today is much better and honest than it was back then. At least when they arent covering up things in their own agenda.

I think with world war two there was more global incentive for him to fight. He was fighting fascism and a genocide. The Vietnam world had less humanitarian need for US intervention. It was a lot more political and unnecessary. I think World war two kept Cap in the battle because he was liberating people from genocide. Vietnam I think he would have less incentive to stay. Then again, independent journalists volunteered to involve themselves to expose what was going on, I think if steve knew about everything, he would be closure to that.

@ABF, I would agree if not for that the fact that Steve has multiple lines of intel. The military wouldn’t give him the dirtiest details, but that’s not really where he would get the bulk of his information because, by that point in the timeline, there were already so many independent heroes operating on their own, not to mention his contacts in other nations that would offer covert intel, not the least of which might be Wakanda, given that Steve knew T’Chaka 🤔

That's a great counter point. Wakanda although in hiding..knew much about the outside world and pulled intimate intel on every country.

Azzuri trusted Steve deeply, he would've definitely shared info if asked.

I know I said my piece already, but I would just like to add that if Cap did indeed serve in Vietnam... He might not come out the same man. After all, Vietnam is where we got the Punisher.

@Max, exactly, they hoarded incredible intel on everyone. Steve wouldn’t have felt right from the start, I believe, and so it’s not a problem for him to just reach out and get the “whole picture”, if you will 👍🏻

Not to discredit other heroes that he knows, who would gladly provide information to him upon request. There are a few who might run into some of that intel on their own, then just relay.

Anyways, back to Steve, I honestly dont think its fair to count wakanda and fictional heroes... I could make a counter argument that many Soviet supervillains would likely be involved making Cap want to go there and fight too. I think we should look at this from a real life perspective, or at least as real life as an immortal frozen super soldier can be. Now with heroes involved, I would probably agree that maybe after dealing with the Soviets he would eventually decide to not fight or if he was never fighting that his sources would tell him the truth. I really really hope the Sin Cong War will tackle a lot of these serious questions. These days Marvel makes fun of Trump and talks about neonazis and what not, but they have been really reluctant to approach subjects like this.

I get your view.. but honestly we're talking about Cap..a fictional character, we're trying to determine what his actions would be. To take out other possible fictional solutions is just kinda picking and choosing.

Overall trying our best to be realistic as possible...as you highlighted, I think there is still a possibility of what @Grey is saying.

A policing action in a different country, with no real idea what or why? Hard to say.
