Everyone knows about DC's Trinity. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are the three most popular, most enduring and most iconic characters in DC's catalogue and three of the greatest superheroes characters ever created.
But who are Marvel's Big 3? Now you might be thinking "Fixer, you handsome son of a bitch, does Marvel even need it's own Trinity?" to which I would reply "First of all don't talk about my mother that way she's a lovely woman. Secondly; shut up mate it's a bit of fun."
For my money it's not even debatable that Spider-Man is would be part of it. Easily the most iconic Marvel character of all time, and right up there with Superman and Batman as the most recognisable superheroes in existence, even moreso than Wonder Woman herself. But after Spider-Man's obvious inclusion it gets a bit difficult.
Do you include Namor by virtue of the fact he was the first Marvel character ever created (and the first superhero with the power of flight for that matter) even though he lacks the star power of other younger characters? What about the Fantastic Four who ushered in the Marvel Age of comics but have similarly been pushed to the side? And how has the MCU and other films changed the public's perception of these younger characters? Iron Man was a B+ player for decades (I distinctly remember being shocked they were making a movie about Iron Man of all people) and although the last 14 years have turned him into a household name, but can you really put him on the level of Batman and Spider-Man with such a relatively short time in the sun? Captain America and Hulk have both managed to maintain a consistent level of popularity and longevity but never felt as big or important as Spidey or Wolverine. Speaking of; Wolverine was easily the second to Spider-Man in terms of popularity for decades but has his absence in the MCU done anything to diminish that? Can he truly still be number 2 in a post Avengers world? And what about other heavy hitters like Black Panther, Thor or even Deadpool (if you're so inclined)?
If you had to compile your own personal Marvel Trinity, who would you choose?
For me it would be Spider-Man, Wolverine and Captain America but who would you choose?
