Well, in the early days magneto and doctor doom were honestly written very similar.
The whole thing about magneto being a Holocaust survivor who was trying to protect mutantdom from humans, that all came much later.
Stan Lee's version of magneto was essentially no different to doctor doom. He was a despot who wanted supremacy over the world. He saw his team as simply subordinates. Everything was a means to an end. Never was it stated that he wanted to protect mutantkind in the early days. He simply thought his rightful place was a te top of the world.
He wanted mutants to overthrow humans, keep them as slaves, and at the very top would be magneto.
He originally was worried about getting namor's help mainly because he saw how powerful namor was and he simply wasnt interested in sharing power.
But much later his character was given a lot of depth. While doom stayed a power hungry despot.
So id say overall magneto became an amazing complicated character, while doom remained kind of the same as he always was. Just wanted to rule everything.
So in their intros, honestly its hard to tell them apart. But overall magneto is a better written character
I am sorry... Doom, but in truth only because once I found out his back story, about his mom, how beloved he initially was by his people, and especially Secret Wars recent version and Infamous Iron Man, I have gained far more respect for Victor. It was and remains my view that Doom isn't merely hungry for power for it's own sake but that he genuinely does believe he is the best the world can do in terms of a leader.
Oh yeah I know that, it's why I love doctor Doom and he's one of my favorite villains. I just think Magneto has purely had more in depth writing throughout the years
Doctor doom
I'd say doom, at least in terms of accomplishments
They’re both pretty good.
For me it depends on the era really. Like in their early days I'd have to say Doom, 90's Magento, but from 00 to now I'd say it's a near tie with Magneto taking a bit of a lead.
I like doom as a villain but i struggle to see him as a compelling villain. Just kind of a typical despot
His goal to rule and he wants to rule everyone on Earth, even all of reality. But its in his character were you'll see the depth, passion and overall drive of Doom. If he was just a basic I want to rule character he would have faded away or not been as big as he is.
That may be so, but i dont really see much that makes him stand out. I mean his design is iconic and his personality is entertaining. To me though i dont see him as overly different than any other despot.
What do you think?
