Here’s my explanation for them:

Vision - He’s there for leadership skills, analyzing the upcoming battles, and giving descriptions of what they attack will be like. He can also fly.

Tempest (Garth) - He’s there for rallying the troops, underwater observations and recon, and keeping an eye on land and water levels.

Yoshimitsu - He’s there for taking care of enemies on land, he can fly, and he can teleport. He’s useful in terms of ninja skills, tactics, stealth, and strategy.

Syzoth - He’s there for assisting his allies that are stuck on the ground if the battle gets tough. He can turn invisible, secrete acid, shapeshift into his Reptilian form that grants him superhuman attributes, and he’s skilled at martial arts.

Dhalsim - He’s very versatile. He can breathe fire, he has elasticity, and he can teleport far range or short range. He could teleport to the upcoming threat and inform his teammates about it.

Karlof - He’s there for defensive and offensive purposes. He can turn his skin into solid metal because he’s the Elemental Master of Metal and absorb any type of strong attack. He’s practically a shield. He can protect his teammates from a powerful blast or attack.
