Hi, this is another post about Queer Love That Was Never Shown. Today's topi, Andrea 'Andi' Benton a.k.a Mania a.k.a Scream a.k.a Silence and homeless girl from F.E.A.S.T. she met, Guinevere.
Following the cancellation of Scream: Curse of Carnage, Clay McLeod Chapman was asked whether he had planned to establish Andi Benton as a lesbian or bisexual with Guinevere as a love interest, and responded in a teasing manner that he would never tell.
Now, let's look at their interactions from #6 of aforementioned comic, shall we?
And that's it, really. It ain't much but they seem to start off the right foot. But because of Andi trying not to lose more people she's been attached to (like Flash Thompson or her mom) and Scream: CoC getting cancelled, we've never seen more. Shame, because I'd love to see that.
What do you think? Would they make a good couple? Or just friends?

Rules:
I pick a character. You all draw that character in whatever style you want. Copy a comic panel, draw your own drawing, whatever you want. You can paint it, draw it, whatever. Then, after we’ll say 48 hours, we close the eligible entries and open the 24hr voting period. Whether you entered or not, you can vote. Whoever gets the most votes has to make the next post and pick the new character.
This week's character: Andrea 'Andi' Benton as Silence.
Good luck!
SPOILERS for Extreme Carnage event, proceed at your own risk.
I'll be brief.
PROS:
Many happy returns. Agent Anti-Venom? Carnage? Life Foundation Symbiotes? Toxin? You got them! Even Sleeper (now bonded to Hank, Flash's new friend) and Iron Man with his Extrembiote came back. I really loved Flash Thompson and Andi Benton return.
Suspense and horror. This event was thrilling. I gasped a lot of times. Carnage was as scary as he should.
Silence. When Scream almost died, I was heartbroken. But when that symbiote created Silence with Anti-Venom fragment, I found that so cool. The design is neat. I wonder if Hell-Mark will work well with it. 🤔
Refreshing grounded Symbiote story. I appreciate that after big King in Black event.
CONS:
American Politics. That event focused about Carnage attacking head of Friends of Humanity, senator Peter Krane, who's running for presidency. I think that was unneccessary American flexing and generic scheme.
Screamophiles no more? After Andi burnt her symbiote (it was hard to get used to) and became Silence, that name is redundant. But Symbio-Philes is not-so-bad alternative.
Flash's lie. I didn't like that Flash made Hank bond to Sleeper and kept him unaware of that fact. Even Bren called his BS on that one.
Overall, I really liked it and can't wait what new Venom run does after this. How about you?
Possible Spoilers, proceed at your own risk.
It was not a bad read. I loved Scream using Hellfire to fight Knull and managing to hurt him. But the Demagoblin stuff is too short and the ending is kind of anti-climatic. I would like to see how (if at all) it will be resolved in King in Black #5.
What did you think?
I just have to say, this is all I expected from Scream in this comic! Hellmark action against Hybrid was cool and it was wholesome seeing her save yet another homeless orphan like she's supposed to. I want more and I can't wait till March for KiB: Scream tie-in.
Now, let's mention Ravencroft. Plague is really nice concept and Cortland Kassady lives up to the name as he makes everyone in the institute cough. He leaves to serve Knull elsewhere though and I didn't care for it as much as for Scream.
Sorry for long delay. I'll be brief.
I'm gonna tell you my general thoughts about Scream comics.
Absolute Carnage: Scream was great. Seeing Symbiote invasion from Scream perspective is nice and scarily exciting. The battle with Carnage is also great and the whole comic gives you chills.
Scream: Curse of Carnage isn't as thrilling as that but it's a bit better as it focuses on the host and her trauma. I love the story of it. The connection between Andi and Scream was well developed. It teaches us important lesson: Your family isn't made by blood and you can find it in complete strangers or even people you hate at first. And I like Andi as a homeless superhero for homeless people which differentiate her a bit from Brock.
About the villain, Big Mother is okay. She had interesting undead Symbiotes she used to trick Scream with Andi's mother disguise. She wanted to be a mother which is not bad motivation. And her flashbacks written like Bewoulf legend with Bewoulf as Thor fighting Symbiotes are nice and give you goosebumps.
Now, it's sad this run was canceled right at the start of Suffer the Children. It would have been a cool horror crime mystery with demonic aspects. Plus, it's a pity we didn't see how Hell-Mark would work with Scream.
But not all hope is lost. Scream will appear in King in Black: Planet of the Symbiotes, with her symbiotic siblings. The creative team of Absolute Carnage: Scream and Web of Venom: Wraith will be behind them. I hope it will be at least as good as other two comics.
In this post, I'll explain what I like about current Scream host. Without her, it would be very bland.
Frist of all, one of the reasons is her history. A lot of superheroes have tragic backstory. And, oh, boy, is this one like that! Let's see:
Mother left her without a word which got her infuriated
Her father, with whom she lived in poverty, got killed by Jack O'Lantern who tried to get to Agent Venom (Andi knew Venom's secret identity)
Soon after becoming an orphan, she bonded with Venom's clone (later known as Mania) and was branded with Hell-Mark, which means she would become a Hell Lord after death. Not a good deal.
Her mentor, Flash Thompson first left to space just like that which made her angry when he returned. Later he lost Venom and became Anti-Venom just to die at the hands of Red Goblin.
Ok, that's enough. TL;DR, as she told her new symbiote in Scream: Curse of Carnage #6: "Everyone in our orbit ends up dead." It shocks reader but at the same time feel a little sympathetic towards Benton and understands her constant angry mood.
Let's get to her time as Mania. She was angry at the boss of Jack O'Lantern, Lord Ogre. She used the Symbiote to hunt down him. That's where we see the difference between Agent Venom and her. Sensible Coach Thompson is trying to be responsible for his actions and other people. Andi has the Mania to avenge her father no matter the cost. Luckily, Thompson is able to reason with her. He's there for her when Mania discovers she has Hell-Mark and gets hunted by Hydra. He tries to help her control both Symbiotic and demonic side of her powers. He takes care of her and he's the closest she had to a father figure in her orphanage. Their teacher and student relarionship helps her grow and allows her to become a hero in her own right, with more abilities than her mentor had.
I should mention that among my favourite things about Andrea Benton is her teenage sass. It really lights up the dark tone of the comics she appeared in but also fits her punk persona.
To sum up, I think her dark tragic story and personality makes her Marvel's edgiest sidekick. And that's why I like her so much.
I decided to put two characters from the same town/city against each other.
