I'm sure Most of you Marvel fans know about Doctor Octopus. Sworn enemy of Spider-Man and popular in all kinds of medias. Here are some of my favorite appearances of the character.
In this fanfiction, I wanted to make him a important part of this story while also adding a major difference that sets him apart from other adaptions but also saying true to his character. Here Is the Analysis of my adaption of the character, but will have major spoilers to my story if your interested in it. If not, I hope you can take a few minutes to read this.
Significant Personality Traits: Brilliant But Toxic
Otto is a significant genius who has an obsession with knowledge and technology. He is very egotistical, narcissistic, and highly ambitious. He believes that everything he does will always go according to his plan and doesn't think for a second that it will ever go wrong. His mind becomes increasingly unstable. He blames his friend Miguel O'Hara for his failure and vows to get revenge on him.
Motivations: Recognition
Otto's motivation at first seems pure hearted, as he wants to do nothing but to help change the world for the better. He wants to do this by creating a machine that has the capability to cure hudrands of diseases around the world. However, after his accident goes wrong Otto's motivations vastly change as he no longer wants to change the world but to get revenge on his friend Miguel, who he believes is responsible for his failure.
Fears/Inner Conflicts: Fear Of Failure
Otto Octavius's inner fears and conflicts are from a combination of personal insecurities, a desire for recognition, and a fear of failure. Otto's inner conflicts intensify as he experiences a series of setbacks and a disillusion of betrayals, leading to a view where he believes that drastic measures are necessary to expand his recogniton.
Significant Actions: Petty and Dangerous
Some of Otto's would be some of the major parts of the story including his experiment going wrong, his escaping from his hospital, the murder of Tyler Stone, (one of Spider-Man's arch nemesis), the home invasion of Miguel's house, and much more that involve around Miguel and his friends.
Outer Conflicts: Negativity To Anyone
Otto Octavius's outer conflicts primarily revolve around his strained relationship with Miguel O'Hara and his misguided pursuit of power and revenge. In the first half of the story, Otto's sudden occurrence causes tension between the married couple of Miguel and Lyla. Things get even worse for them after Otto escapes from the hospital and causes even greater physical tension to the 2 characters.
What to like about Otto: How He Is written
One of the main things I find likable about him is how his mindset is written and his slow descent into insanity and lust for vengeance and power. He shares the same traits that any other likable villain would have such as a clear goal and motives, his history with the main hero, the tragedies that contribute to his descent into villainy, and he's not one dimensional. His genius also contribute to it, with the readers fearing what might Otto do next with the genius brain of his.
Basic Summary:
Otto is a character who is a victim to ambition. His strong ego and pridefulness led him to believe he was aimed for success and couldn't see his own failure, so when his own failure came, Otto tried to deny it and even defeflect it causing horrible consequences to his well-being and most importantly his ego. It is soon than that Otto becomes corrupted by his own invention, that he blames his own failures on his friend leading him to cause terrible events that negatively impact Miguel.
