I was recently re-reading Crisis on Infinite Earths when I got up from reading to check the stats on the comic industry and I came to a document showing every tie in to Empyre. When I saw Squadron Supreme listed for two issues I got confused for a second forgetting that there's hundreds of variations of the team across the multiverse. And then it hit me. Secret Wars basicly did what Crisis on Infinite Earths did. It destroyed other universe publications, tied up any continuity mistakes, and gave reasons why different characters wouldn't be appearing anymore. The thing is there is something more that makes the entire event seem like it was supposed to have a different ending. In the end of Secret Wars The Fantastic Four recreate the multiverse. After that though many characters were appearing in the 616 universe without an explanation. They were supposed to be different variants of other multiversal characters but they were never fully explained as in each universe there is a difference to each character, for example in the classic Squadron Supreme reality Hyperion has a different origin to the one seen in Hickman's Avengers run. This creates problems as what were the differences to origins and personality compared to the other realities? This reminded me of after Crisis on Infinite Earths when DC just shoehorned in characters into continuity without explanation (ahem! Power girl, Hawkman, etc. ahem!) And it made me wonder, did Marvel want to get rid of the multiverse like Dc had in '85? and by my looks it looks like its probable. That's why I believe that Secret Wars was not going to end with the Fantastic Four recreating the multiverse but have all the characters Marvel wanted to keep like Miles Morales come to main continuity. But, the thing is a lot of these characters played no role in Secret Wars so they would shoe horn them into continuity by saying that they where born on 616 and are the 616 version of that hero. The only thing is if this is true then why didn't they? To that I say I don't know, but I have loads of theories. But in the essence of conversation what do you think? Did they intend to get rid of the multiverse? Where the appearances mistakes? Why did they keep the multiverse? Am I looking to far into this? Share your thoughts.
