[WARNING: BRUTAL VIOLENCE]
The team slept in their stolen minivan, save for Azazel, who was tossing and turning. As it turns out, mutants are not immune to the effects of too much caffeine. That, and he kept thinking of his relationship with Mystique. They had a child together decades ago, he thought she was dead and now she bossed him around. It was befuddling for him, to say the least. His train of thought was cut short by law enforcement arriving on the scene.
“Owyhee County Police! Step out of the vehicle, mutants!”
Azazel teleported around, causing some friendly fire amongst the cops. The cops tactically retreated. Azazel sped off in the minivan, leaving behind two dead officers. Unfortunately for the Brotherhood, that meant war for the Owyhee County Police Department and everyone who watched the bodycam footage released on the news.
The team rested at a rustic bed and breakfast in Bruneau, Idaho. All was quiet until a man named Carl Pattillo burst through the door of the small-town inn, armed to the teeth, demanding to see the mutants. Azazel stepped out of the cabin, reassuring Carl that he was unarmed.
Carl fired. A single bullet passed through Azazel’s gut. In one end, out the other, clean, neat, and organized. Carl burst out into a guttural scream and fired again, this time aiming for the head.
Azazel died quickly.
Mystique burst into anger, mostly at Carl, but also at herself. She shot Carl through the heart several times and beat him into a pulp. One heavy blow for each tear she shed. One heavy blow for each time she never confessed how much she loved Azazel. One heavy blow for each of her regrets.
Then Sergeant Pete Smith arrived on the scene to find Azazel and Carl dead, Mystique crying and beating Carl’s corpse, and Mort, Jenny, Ned, and John hiding in their hotel room.
“What are you lot do—"
Pete was interrupted by a katana thrown through his spine.
“Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Now who wants some expired Mexican food? I brought enough to feed everyone!”
Meanwhile, in a storage locker in Boise, X-Cutioner fired darts from a dart gun at images of the original six Brotherhood members, Azazel, Toad, Roulette, Scalphunter, Lifter, and Mystique. He hit the images with perfect accuracy. He was ready to wage a twenty man war.
