^I definitely agree with you that the OG series is still better but I’m curious about what the unforgivable thing that ‘97 did is.
^Much more opinion than truth. I will admit that X-Men ‘97 isn’t perfect but it’s still very much a beloved and thrilling sequel to the original animated series.
As for your original question @MrCourier13 , if you want to shorten up the amount you have remaining in the original animated series I would say that the Beyond Good and Evil arc and Graduation Day are the only mandatory episodes you have left to watch before starting ‘97.
The Madelyne storyline being added in show left me with a mixed reaction. On the one hand I really appreciate that they didn’t have Scott completely ditch her like he did in the comics the moment Jean came back. On the other hand the fact that they crammed all of Inferno into a single episode left me feeling like this amazing storyline was shortchanged. Your point about the Cable end of things ignoring the lore established in the original animated series is par for the course. They ignored quite a few things from the original series that they shouldn’t have imo in favor of certain comic callbacks that we could’ve done without (looking at you Rogue and Magneto).
I definitely get where you’re coming from that Jean not dying in the original animated series makes the Madelyne addition a little bit odd, since it’s obviously that Scott and Jean had decided they would have kids someday back when they tried to get married the first time. I guess an argument could be made that Sinister wanted to torment Scott as much as possible so kidnapping both Jean and later his son is a sure fire way to do the deed. This would certainly be in line with Sinister’s personality in the comics. The dude’s been gaslighting Scott ever since his days at the orphanage.
Deadpool is tied with GOTG for the second best trilogy imo. Captain America is still the best Marvel trilogy imo.,
Cyclops
Spider-Man (Peter)
Iron Man
Captain America
Melinda May
Deadpool and Punisher are my top 2 favorites.
If you love the original animated series then I would highly recommend it. It plays off the nostalgia of the og series pretty well. It’s not perfect but it’s easily the best Marvel Disney Plus show imho.
Avengers EMH was always leagues better than Avengers Assemble. I tried to watch Avengers Assemble and it just came across as a watered down beyond recognition version of the Avengers. Very rarely do you actual feel legitimately concerned about the circumstances and enemies the Avengers are facing. EMH did a phenomenal job of maintaining actual stakes, the animation was great, and it overall just felt like an Avengers story.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Spider-Man No Way Home
Captain America: Winter Soldier
Avengers: Infinity War
Black Panther
@RJ Plotner I’m personally hoping it doesn’t join the MCU. I love X-Men ‘97 as a standalone continuation of the original animated series, so I see no need to tie it to the MCU.
X-Men 97 isn’t MCU but I’m very excited about season 2. Daredevil: Born Again is probably the only other thing I’m most excited for atm.
Iron Man
Spider-Man
Black Widow
Scarlet Witch
Captain America
I’ve seen a lot of people chew out Scott for the whole Madelyne situation. Even as someone who considers him my favorite X-Man I also have some issues with the way he treated her, but I also feel like those who straight up curse his name for this need to remember how conflicting this situation is. Jean has always been a huge part of his life and his heart so of course he needed to see her for himself. Should he have provided Madelyne with an actual explanation for leaving? Most definitely but even that is a tricky situation given how difficult it was for Madelyne to accept the fact that she reminds Scott of Jean. There was no way for him to handle this situation without someone getting hurt to some degree. Overall the entire Madelyne storyline did a great job of showing that despite his amazing leadership skills, he’s a very flawed human being who is capable of being broken, who needs to learn how to better communicate with his loved ones.
This leads me to your second topic of Emma and Scott. I have yet to read the New X-Men comics in depth but I know enough about the reasons behind their psychic affair to know that this is much worse than the Madelyne situation. Apocalypse trauma or not, Scott shouldn’t have allowed Emma to take advantage of him like that. He knew damn well that he was being unfaithful, he literally said it in the act and then when he gets busted he tries to excuse it as “just thoughts”. Thinking about committing adultery is still a major no-no lol.
That said, I find it impossible to give Jean a free pass since before this she was throwing herself at Logan (again). Heck, she did it in the X-Factor comics even after she resolved to work on her relationship with Scott. I’m constantly amazed how many times she refuses to keep her hands off Logan and she never gets caught or called out on it. It really seems like the lack of communication from both Scott and Jean leads them to seek “comfort” from other folks. It’s happened in New X-Men, X-Factor, X-Men ‘97, etc. This is definitely one of the main reasons why I just don’t care for Scott and Jean as a couple.
Unpopular opinion I know but I’ve never been a Wolverine fan ever since I was first introduced to the character via X-Men TAS. His personality just set me off.
Toad
Winter Soldier and Into the Spider-Verse are at the top of my list these days.
Top 5 (in no particular order)
Cyclops
Spider-Man (Peter)
Iron Man
Rogue
Melinda May
It’s very meh imo. The campaign story was alright but nothing to write home about. I was hyped when it first came out but I soon realized that this game is a great example of missed opportunity. The A.I.M. enemies are extremely repetitive. Same thing goes for the after campaign missions. I enjoy playing as Iron Man, Black Panther, and Black Widow. It sucks that some of the characters they added weren’t uniquely different from the rest of the characters (cough* Jane cough*). For this to be a video game based off of the avengers I was hoping for a roster the size of the Ultimate Alliance games.
An open world X-Men game would be awesome!
