With the new Sentry run, if you can even call it that, coming to a close I am left absolutely baffled as to how Marvel has just straight up treated the character like trash. The Sentry series was not even about him; it just was about replacing him with some random girl. It’s not even like the character has gotten any better treatment in the last 5 years; his last appearance was literally only used to hype up Knull, the writer of King in Black admitted to just seeing a couple of panels of the Sentry and saying that it would be a good way to hype up Knull, ignoring his merged storyline. I generally agree that writing complex OP characters is difficult, but seeing the love Legion got with how they explained his fight with Uranos made me realize it’s more like they don’t want to put in the energy rather than not being able to. It also seems like more and more traditionally white male characters are antagonized or replaced by other races and getting gender swapped which is just stupid. Literally the only white dude that got Sentry’s powers in the miniseries was depicted as a murderer who relentlessly hunted the other hosts, who of course were minorities. I’m not even white, I’m Hispanic, and I would rather the Sentry stay a white male than a Hispanic man or a black women because there is no narrative reason why they need to change who he is. In addition, the Silver Surfer is also one of Marvels OP heroes and he still gets some very well written stories to this day. Also even though he is a white man he is still a minority; struggle with mental illness is a very real problem in modern society that Marvel could represent using Sentry instead of changing his entire character to represent minorities that already have plenty of representation in not only other media but in Marvel Comics as well. Although it’s mainly a post to vent my feelings, I also want to her what you all’s opinions are about this.
