Aaf Capmi Piap is the daughter of Witchcraft and Chaos.[1] She was named Amaranth by her adoptive human father, Philip Hawlut. She is a former apprentice of the Scarlet Witch.[4]
History
When witchcraft itself was dying,[5] Wanda Maximoff went to Witches' Road on a quest to fix it along with Agatha Harkness and Natalya Maximoff. The three witches eventually discovered that Chaos was attempting to overthrow Witchcraft. Natalya sacrificed herself with her soul, reviving Witchcraft,[6] and this sacrifice inspired the two abstract entities to set aside their fighting and try to aim for a balance between the two; they decided to create a child to represent the "living embodiment of their truce" and named her Aaf Capmi Piap, meaning "Among Power, Balance."[1]
From the Witch's Road, she walked to Earth without any knowledge of her true identity.[1] She was adopted by Philip Hawlut, also oblivious to her real origin, and was given the name Amarenth, meaning "everlasting." She was eventually sent by Agatha Harkness to become Wanda Maximoff's new apprentice.[4] She also became an ally of the New Champions.[3]Attributes
Powers
Magic: Amaranth possesses a variety of innate magical abilities, being the daughter and intermediary of the abstract entities Witchcraft and Chaos and is also being mentored in spellcraft by The Scarlet Witch.
- Magic Negation: Amaranth possesses a natural talent for Abjuration, suppression of other magical works, an incredibly skilled practice for other mages, that she can employ on instinct.[4]
- Madness Instillment: By making eye contact, Amaranth can make a person go crazy, as seen with her adoptive father,[4] the Iceworm,[2] and the Black Cat.[7]
- Flight[1]
Notes
- Amaranth was originally conceived as part of the New Champions variant cover program, a series of covers celebrating Spider-Boy by imagining hypothetical non-canon "forgotten" sidekicks for other Marvel characters. In Amaranth's case, she debuted in the New Champions variant cover for Scarlet Witch (Vol. 3) #9 and was conceptualized by artist Jen Bartel.[8]
