History
Abraham lived in modern-day Iraq.[1] He is a prophet of God who was told to sacrifice his son, Isaac, but sacrificed a sheep instead. Muslims make an annual pilgrimage to Mecca to honor the sacrifices Abraham and his concubine, Hajar, made.[2]
Trivia
Iraq was once known as Mesopotamia, a Greek term for "land between rivers". The term reflected its position within the TigrisāEuphrates river system.
