Ace is a former mutant gang leader turned accomplice to the extradimensional Threadneedle.

History

Ace Spencer grew up in poverty in the slums of New York. His mother became bedridden while Ace was a teenager, and he had to raise his siblings Lorenzo and Rose on his own. In this process, Ace joined the Reapers, and eventually became their leader.[2]

Ace quit the gang when he discovered he was a mutant, and found work as a freelance security guard. Ace was sought by the NYPD and Spider-Man after witnessing a gang shooting by his brother, who had since joined the Reapers. Ace, confronted and fought by the superhero, was finally convinced of his responsibility to help others, and began by turning in his brother.[3]

Ace saw "a lot" in the time after his last meeting with Spider-Man, and began working with Threadneedle for preservation of universes.[4] While Ace was a key part of Threadneedle's plan to save the extradimensional entity Shan-K'ang, he never knew that the two were siblings.[5]

Notes

  • Ace's late creator Peter David thought of him as resembling musician Prince, and was surprised to find that artist Mark Beachum had also based Ace's appearance on his own,[6] just "toned down."[7] Felicia Hardy highlights the Prince resemblance by referring to Ace as a "Minneapolis rockstar wannabe."[4]
