History

Adopting Ororo Munroe
Achmed El Gibár was a master thief of Cairo who for many years helped orphaned kids and taught them how to survive on the streets, by begging, stealing and picking both pockets and locks. Among the children he took in was young Ororo Munroe after her parents died in a plane crash. Within a year Ororo became his prize pupil, the best thief in Cairo.[1][2]
When Ororo stole the Heart of Eternal Darkness, Achmed scolded her and took the ruby from her for safekeeping. Unknowingly to both of them, it belonged to an immortal mutant Candra, and the Heart contained her life force and power.[3]

Achmed's urchins
Ororo grew to hate her parents for abandoning her, and even refused to use her real name for several years, preferring to use name "Snow-top" that was given to her by other urchins. When she was 8 years old, she was sent on her first solo mission to steal a box from the museum. She successfully completed the mission and proudly returned to Achmed El Gibár. Inside the box was the photo of Ororo and her parents, and Achmed told her that great thief hides from others, not herself and she should accept her true name. She refused initially, but eventually thanked Achmed, mourned her parents and accepted her name.[4]
At around 10 years old[5] Ororo became experienced enough for Achmed to trust her to lead a small group of thieves, Hakiim and Nari. During one of their missions to steal food for all the urchins, Hakiim was almost caught by the guards. Nari believed that it was more important to deliver the food, so she escaped. Ororo stayed behind to save Hakiim, but she couldn't do much to the guards. The kids were saved by their teacher and returned with him to their home, where Nari was bragging how good of a thief she was. Achmed, however, was disappointed and punished her for abandoning her fellow thieves. He also scolded Haikiim for yet another mistake and planned to punish him as well, but Ororo claimed that as the leader it was her fault, so she was punished instead.[6]
Soon, Achmed was hired by Desmond Barrett to steal the Opal of Ozymandias, a legendary magical artifact hidden in the Pyramids of Giza behind many traps. Achmed sent Ororo's team into the Pyramids to steal the Opal.[7] Barrett, however, betrayed them, captured Achmed and other urchins and planned to sacrifice them to resurrect Apocalypse. His plans were foiled by Ororo's group who rescued Achmed and others and defeated Barrett.[8][9]

Death
When she was about 12, Ororo felt a strong urge to wander south and left Cairo.[1] Achmed El Gibár returned the Heart of Eternal Darkness back to her, before she left.[3]
Achmed remained in Cairo and continued helping and teaching orphans. Many years later he accepted Karima and Jamil. He felt that Jamil was special, like Ororo, and treated him as his son. However, with years Jamil grew restless and wanted more than being just a thief. Against Achmed's wishes he started to learn from others in Cairo how to kill people. When Achmed was dying from old age, he contacted his best disciple, Ororo and summoned her back to Cairo. He asked her to guide Jamil, but the boy refused their help and instead joined Candra. After Achmed died, Ororo trained Karima who became the leader of street urchins.[10]Attributes
