History
Doom recruited many promising champions and molded them into his Acolytes, named after the villains of the Heroic Age.[2] While Doom hoarded all of Earth's magic for himself, the Acolytes were lefy to actually run the world in the master's name.[1]
Tired of Doom and desiring to have free will and to rule for themselves, the Acolytes conspired against Doom.[1] After years of planning,[3] they turned on Doom and stabbed him with an anti-magic blade made from Mysterium mined by Onslaught. Wounded, Doom gloated that his magic was all that kept the worst horrors at the bay. They intended to use his collection of magic relics to protect what was left of the world from magical threats, only to learn that Doom had destroyed all of them, ensuring that magic died with him. After discovering that his vaults were empty, Killmonger finished Doom by cutting off his head.[1] Bullseye reached for the Orb of Agamotto, which exploded and incinerated him.[4]
With the magic protecting the Earth gone, Annihilus immediately broke loose in the Negative Zone.[4] His emergence distracted Ghost, enabling Ava Starr to kill her and claim her suit and identity for herself.[5] Annihilus then attacked Castle Doom,[4] killing Yellowjacket and Crossbones. One his drones also secretly infected Abomination, allowing Annihilus to hide his consciousness inside of him.[2]
As the Annihilation Wave was ravaging Earth, the surviving Acolytes, including Ava Starr who impersonated Ghost amongst them, were transported back in time to Earth-616 by Kristoff Vernard via the Time Platform,[5] where they became the Superior Avengers.[3]See Also
