History

Adad was a village elder that lived in what is now modern-day Jordan in the year 9500 BCE. He and his village lived an area that had become barren due to overuse of its resources. Desperate to save his people but not wanting to move elsewhere, Adad decided to offer sacrifice Tammuz, a friend of his son Shalim whom he accused of leading Shalim astray and spreading rumors that Adad had lost his mind and was leading their people to ruination. Adad then pushed Tammuz into a crater created by meteorite called the Good Green Eye that gave off a strange green glow. The meteorite immediately consumed Tammuz and killed him.

After Adad returned to the village, Shalim asked him what happened to Tammuz. Shalim eventually realized that something was wrong and asked Adad what he did to Tammuz. Adad shoved Shalim to the ground and chastised him, calling him a milksop and lied that Tammuz willingly sacrificed himself for the village. Adad was then told by someone that a beast had been spotted in a nearby gorge. Believing that his sacrifice of Tammuz worked, Adad ordered the hunters to kill the beast. The beast was later netted and killed with arrows and spears. Adad praised his son for attacking the beast. Only Shalim realized that the monster was actually Tammuz due to Tammuz's unique birthmark.

Later, the people of village, including Adad, devour the flesh of the beast. Adad proclaimed that it was Tammuz's willing sacrifice that led to the village's newfound bounty. Adad then told everyone that he planned to sacrifice the people of neighboring tribes to the Good Green Eye to help the village continue to proper. Suddenly, Tammuz came back to life and began regathering his flesh to rebuild his body. This resulted in those that ate his flesh being ripped apart as Tammuz's flesh came out of their bodies. All those present, including Adad, died.[1]
