History
Origins[]
Adam was created by High Priestess Ayesha to be the "Warlock", the next step in the evolution of the Sovereign, a race of gold-skinned humanoids created by the High Evolutionary. He was developed in a biomechanical cocoon for at least eleven years to grant him the abilities of flight, enhanced strength, and energy projection, all so he could destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy, a mercenary team that had betrayed and humiliated the Sovereign after being hired by them.[1][2]
Pursuit of Rocket[]
Adam was removed from his cocoon early circa 2025 by the High Evolutionary, who sent him to the mining colony Knowhere to apprehend Rocket, a member of the Guardians and an escaped test subject of the High Evolutionary that he wished to study further. When he arrived on Knowhere, he attempted to grab Rocket, but was viciously attacked by the Guardians, being beaten by Drax and Groot, and being stabbed by Nebula. Adam escaped, but not before mortally wounding Rocket with one of his energy blasts.
Returning to Counter-Earth, the High Evolutionary's planet, Adam and Ayesha were given an ultimatum by the High Evolutionary: deliver Rocket to him or he would wipe out the Sovereign completely. The two tracked the Guardians to the Orgoscope, the headquarters for the High Evolutionary's biotech company, OrgoCorp, from where they were able to track the Guardians' ship, the Bowie, and also picked up a small F'Saki called Blurp that Adam took as a pet. They followed the Bowie back to Counter-Earth, the Guardians attempting to get a passkey to disarm a kill switch on Rocket's heart that was keeping them from performing a life-saving operation on him.
Arriving on Counter-Earth, Adam, carrying Blurp with him, flew to the parked Bowie, which was being guarded by the Guardians' ally Gamora with the unconscious Rocket inside. Adam dropped off Blurp in the ship and prepared to face down Gamora, but the High Evolutionary, believing one of his henchman had gotten Rocket, began detonating explosives all over the planet as he took off in his ship, the Arête, which held the rest of the Guardians inside. Panicking, Adam flew back to his own ship, arriving just in time to see it be destroyed by one of the explosives with his mother inside.
A desperate and weak Adam flew back to the Bowie for shelter, and collapsed on the ship's floor, leaving Gamora to restrain him as she flew the ship to save her teammates Groot and Star-Lord. She grabbed them and got the ship off the planet, and they used the recently acquired passkey to disarm Rocket's kill switch and operate on him to save his life. Once Rocket regained some of his strength, Star-Lord led the group in pods that detached from the Bowie to attack the Arête, which still housed their friends, along with Knowhere, which was being piloted to help break into the ship.
Meanwhile, Adam came to and broke free of his restraints before flying up to Star-Lord and Gamora's pod and violently attacking it, hoping for one last try and acquiring Rocket. However, the two fought him off and managed to jump out of the pod as it was set to self-destruct, knocking Adam into a daze.[2]
Joining the Guardians[]
The Guardians reunited with their captive teammates and set to work trying to evacuate the High Evolutionary's test subjects to Knowhere, which they connected to a hole in the side of the Arête. During the evacuation, Groot took the unconscious Adam back to Knowhere, where he was told that everyone deserved a second chance. Inspired by Groot's compassion, Adam aided with the rest of the evacuation, and when Star-Lord was left behind when the bridge between the ships collapsed, he flew in and saved his life.
After the evacuation and his near brush with death, Star-Lord announced he would retire to his home planet and spend time with his remaining family. Most of the Guardians disbanded, but Rocket, now going by the name "Rocket Raccoon", assembled a new iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and brought on Adam to be a part of it so as to use his second chance wisely.[2]Attributes
