History

Adrienne Hatros was the wife of Doctor Hatros, founder of the Hatros Institute for Emotional Research. Dr. Hatros founded the first clinic in Los Angeles in 1974.[2] [note 1] The Institute helped people through therapeutic programs, and became the largest research center into human emotion in the United States.[3]

Following the death of Dr. Hatros less than five years after founding the Hatros Institute, Adrienne became the owner of the Institute, but she became reclusive.[1][4][5] Meanwhile, the misanthropic supercriminal Nekra, at that point leader of the Cult of Kali, wanted to move her base of operations to the west coast,[1][6][4][5] Nekra decided to take control of the Hatros Institute to provide a cover for the Cult,[1][5] and to use the Institute's resources to learn more about her powers.[1] [4] Adrienne was killed by a trusted[1] cultist at the orders of[1][5] Nekra.[1][4] From that moment on, Nekra posed as Ms. Hatros and took control of the clinic to use it for her own purposes[1][5] and as a cover for the Kara-Kai,[7] and it was justified that she never showed up because she was supposedly often out of town on business,[8][1] lecturing and founding clinics in other cities.[1] Most people at the Institute, including manager Dr. Mark Leaman, didn't know that Ms. Hatros was actually Nekra.[9]

Notes

  1. This fact should be considered topical. The comic in which the date is mentioned was published in 1979, only 5 years after this date.

Trivia

  • As Adrienne went by "Ms. Hatros" and not "Dr. Hatros", she probably did not have a PhD, unlike her husband Doctor Hatros. Hatros Institute's Dr. Leaman mentioned how Ms. Hatros had made incredible achievements in emotion-therapy; as he said this after Ms. Hatros had been replaced by Nekra without Leaman knowing, it is unclear whether those achievements had been made by the real Ms. Hatros or by Nekra.[2]
