A physics major sees a small city through a microscope and uses his professor's machine to shrink himself so that he may save the princess from political assassins. She professes to share his love, but the town begins flooding and the student realizes that the professor is cleaning off the slide. He returns to his world too late, but resolves to search for that single drop of water.

A sea captain and one other member of the crew are in a lifeboat after the ship sinks. The crew member wants to head for a nearby island but the captain is adamant against the idea as the island is populated with cannibals whose behavior he finds disgusting. Eventually their food and water are gone and the crew member dies. Five days later the only survivor on the lifeboat is the sea captain and he's picked up by a ship. When he is asked two questions, how did you survive five days without rations and why didn't you head for the island near to where your ship sank, he pointedly ignores the first question and reiterates his disgust at cannibalistic practices.

Jacques and Henri agree to duel with swords at dawn and the seconds suspect them of cowardice when they are late but eventually they arrive and take up positions. They each run the other through with their sword and walk off arm in arm toward the cemetery astounding the seconds. Another man arrives and informs the seconds that both Jacques and Henri had committed suicide rather than face the duel.
