Synopsis for "The Man Who Ran Away"
Professor Barton expresses his acute distaste for humanity. He cannot stand their ignorance and stupidity. The professor considers himself to have a superior brain with little patience for the world at hand. He creates a time machine which he uses to project himself into the future. He arrives in a strange city and is informed by its inhabitants that the year is 4024. He relishes the idea of having escaped his own time (1973), a time that was steeped in ignorance and far below his mental stature. The professor is then approached by the authorities and he is told that he will be brought before a council of elders. They quiz him on his story but then he is asked a series of questions which are out of his realm of knowledge. He has no idea how to answer their questions since he is a man of the 20th century. He is told that he was not able to answer questions that a 6 year old can answer. He is declared to be mentally inferior and is ordered to be “weeded out”.
