Notes
Continuity Notes[]
- Adventures of Captain America retells and expands Captain America's origin story and first adventures, including his first struggle against the Nazi officer Red Skull. Although this series has not been considered canonical due to its inconsistencies with Captain America's previously established history, plot elements from Adventures of Captain America have recently started being featured in Marvel Official Handbooks, such as Project Rebirth's entry in Captain America: America's Avenger #1 and Red Skull's entry in All-New Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z: Update #4. However, some inconsistencies remains between this series' account and the classic Captain America's canon:
- For example, Project Rebirth's Dr. Anderson is killed in this issue by Red Skull's agents, while in Giant-Size Invaders #1 he was shown as alive and helped forming the Invaders.
- The mysterious Agent X-13[1] / Agent R,[2] the only woman who worked at Project Rebirth, has been replaced by Lt. Cynthia Glass, also referenced in later stories, such as Steve Rogers: Super-Soldier #1–3 and Captain America (Vol. 4) #32. However, since Agent R's identity has never been revealed canonically,[3] it could be presumed they actually are the same character.
- Col. James Fletcher mentions Steve Rogers' parents, Joseph and Sarah, to be Irish immigrants, and that Joseph had died in 1920; this contradicts the later information that Steve was born on July 4, 1922, and the fact itself that he was a direct descendant of Revolutionary War Patriot with the same name.
- The Nazi spy who kills Dr. Erskine, Heinz Kruger,[4] uses the fake identity of Frederick Clemson to enter inside Project Rebirth's facility. This is a reference to Captain America #255, where he was named Special Agent Clemson; the codename Frederick Clemson has been utilized again in Marvels Project #4.
