What witch in their right mind would join Agatha Harkness' Coven?

Lilia Calderu[source]

History

In a desperate bid to regain her powers after being freed from the Scarlet Witch's spell, Agatha Harkness agreed to accompany "Teen" to the Witches' Road while secretly planning to steal magic from any witch she can find. Requiring a coven, Agatha used the Covenstead Rule to locate Lilia Calderu. After some convincing and a vision, Lilia agreed to join and provided Agatha with a list of other witches that were destined to join her coven. Agatha and "Teen" than recruited Jennifer Kale and Alice Wu-Gulliver to the coven. Believing the black heart originally on Lilia's list represented Rio and not wanting to work with her, Agatha tricked Sharon Davis (the former "Mrs. Hart") into joining. Fearing the arrival of the Salem Seven, Agatha hurried her coven to sing the Ballad of the Witches' Road then tried to provoke them into attacking her to steal their power. However, when the coven actually did open a door to the Witches' Road, they had to hastily use the door to escape the imminent attack by the Salem Seven.[1]

On the Witches' Road, the majority of the coven narrowly survived the first travel by learning to work together to brew an antidote to Alewife's Revenge. Unfortunately, Sharon did not survive.[5] With Sharon dead, the coven summoned a replacement Green Witch leading to Rio arrival and joining the coven.[4] However, they accidentally left a door open to the Witches' Road, which the Salem Seven used to enter the Witches' Road and attack them. Using flying brooms and the third trial to escape, the coven narrowly avoided a direct attack from the Salem Seven. Unfortunately, during the third trial Agatha absorbed the magic and life essence from Alice, killing her. In a rage over Alice's death and Agatha's callous behavior, Teen attacked Agatha by mind-controlling Jennifer and Lilia before depositing all three of them off the path of the Witches' Road and seemingly leaving them to die in the quicksand-like terrain.[3]

Trivia

  • In an interview with TheWrap, showrunner Jac Schaeffer confirmed that Wiccan was indeed the fifth member of the coven represented by the black heart on Lilia's list (as she could not write his name due to the sigil).[6]
