Akhlat, The Accursed, was an oasis and formerly a trading city, set in the Shan-e-Sorkh desert region. The city was under the control of a gorgon until the arrival of Conan.[2] Once Akhlat the Holy, the city was surrounded by the green and fertile land around them.[1]

History

After the Great Cataclysm[]

Akhlat the Holy was a city was surrounded by the green and fertile land. The land of Akhlat was ruled since the Fall of Atlantis by the same dynasty.

Eventually, a sorcerer of Akhlat plotted against the ancient dynasty. He turned the people against their weak and indulgent monarch, dethroning him and imprisoning him.

The sorcerer eventually had the king sacrificed at the altar of the temple, set himself as priests and prophets of the Unknown Gods. Eventually, he summoned a demoness to pose as the goddess of the city, retaining control over her and presenting himself as sole interpreter of her divine will. Their rule soon turned into tyranny, and the demoness eventually evaded the sorcerer's control, destroyed him, and ruled in his place.

The demoness was immortal thanks to her power who allowed her to steal the life force from living creatures. She turned the land into a desert, save for the valley where Akhlat was set, needing to sustain living creatures to feed daily and remain on this plane of existence. A prophecy, recorded on a scroll, who told of a liberator who would defeat the demoness.[1]

Age of Conan[]

By the Age of Conan, circa 10,000 BC, Akhlat, The Accursed, was an oasis set in the Shan-e-Sorkh desert region. The city was under the control of a gorgon until the arrival of Conan.[2]

Having defeated the gorgon, Conan was offered to be rewarded by Enosh, but declined, believing Enosh would need his gold for when merchants would return to Akhlat.[1]
