Al Avison is the son of George Avison, a professional muralist from Connecticut. Avison was influenced by the work of his father and of illustrator Albert Dorne. He studied at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
Professional History
Avison's first known comics work at Timely Comics is co-inking Jack Kirby's lead story in September 1940. As a penciler, he has been credited as a co-creator for the Whizzer and for Miss America.
