Toy Biz[]

Fine joined Toy Biz, Inc. as President and Chief Operating Officer of the subsidiary Toy Biz International, Ltd. on May 7, 1996,[2] and was later promoted to Chief Operating Officer of the company in September 1996.

Alan served as a member of Toy Biz's Board of Directors from June 23, 1997 until October 1, 1998, when the company renamed itself Marvel Enterprises, Inc. after the acquisition of Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. on the same day.[3] Alan was appointed Executive Vice President and continued to serve as Chief Operating Officer of Marvel Enterprises until January 1, 1999, when he was promoted President & Chief Executive Officer of Marvel's Toy Biz Division.[4] Effective March 1, 1999, Alan's contract as President & Chief Executive Officer of Toy Biz was renewed until March 1, 2001.[5]

Marvel Enterprises[]

When his contract ended on March 1, 2001,[6] Fine served as an independant consultant to Marvel Enterprises, Inc., until he rejoined on August 13, 2001 as Executive Vice President of the company and as President & Chief Executive Officer of the Toy Biz Division.[7]

On September 15, 2004, Alan became President & Chief Executive Officer of the Marvel Publishing Division, replacing former President of Publishing and Chief Information Officer Gui Karyo.[8]

Marvel Entertainment[]

Marvel Enterprises, Inc. renamed itself Marvel Entertainment, Inc. on September 16, 2005, after successfully closing a deal to finance its own movie slate.[9] The company's Publishing Division was then incorporated as Marvel Publishing, Inc. on October 03, 2005, with Fine continuing to serve as President & Chief Executive Officer of the newly formed subsidiary.[10]

On March 26, 2007 Alan Fine was promoted to Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, Marvel Characters, Inc., retaining his title of Chief Executive Officer, Toy & Publishing Divisions.[11]

The role of President, Marvel Publishing, Inc. passed to Publisher Dan Buckley, who added President of Publishing - Print & Digital Media to its title.[12] Marvel Entertainment's Toy Biz Division was then rebranded Marvel Toys starting from January 2007 and later ultimately dismissed and closed by March 31, 2008.[13] Marvel Characters B.V. was incorporated in Netherlands on January 30, 2008, becoming the successor-in-interest of Marvel Characters, Inc.; Fine joined the company as a member of the Board of Directors, Vice Chairman of the Board, Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer.[14]

At some point between 2007 and 2008, Marvel Studios, Inc. formed a Creative Committee to oversee creative and continuity aspects of the movie production. Alan was named Chairman,[15] while other members included Publisher Dan Buckley, writer Brian Michael Bendis and Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada,[16] as well as Marvel Entertainment's Board member Sid Ganis.[17]

Alan was promoted to Executive Vice President, Office of the Chief Executive, Marvel Entertainment, Inc. on April 28, 2009, joining Executive Vice Presidents John Turitzin and David Maisel and assisting the company's Chief Executive Officer Isaac Perlmutter, also continuing to serve as an executive officer of Marvel Characters B.V.[15] The title of Chief Executive Officer, Marvel Publishing, Inc. was assumed by Dan Buckley, who was promoted to Chief Executive Officer and Publisher - Print, Animation & Digital Media.[18]

Since his promotion as Executive Vice President, Office of the Chief Executive, Fine has started to be credited as Executive Producer of comic books published by Marvel Comics, television shows produced by Marvel Animation and Marvel Studios movies.

The Walt Disney Company[]

On December 31, 2009, Marvel Entertainment, Inc. was acquired by The Walt Disney Company. Marvel was merged into a subsidiary of Disney, Maverick Merger Sub LLC., which was then renamed Marvel Entertainment, LLC., remaining only as an holding company while all the business operations were transferred to the Marvel Publishing, Inc. subsidiary,[19] which was renamed Marvel Worldwide, Inc. on January 5, 2010.[20] Alan Fine's title became Executive Vice President, Office of the President, Marvel Worldwide, Inc., reporting to the company's Chief Executive Officer, Ike Perlmutter.[21]

Continuing to serve as Chairman of Marvel Studios' Creative Committee, Fine was ultimately promoted to President, Marvel Entertainment at least by September 2013, starting to being credited as Executive Producer of all Marvel Television productions.[22]

Due to creative differences between President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige and Marvel's New York Office, Disney Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger had Feige and Marvel Studios reporting directly to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn instead of Marvel's chief Ike Perlmutter, leading to the dissolvement of Marvel Studios' Creative Committee on September 1, 2015.[16]

Effective January 1, 2017, Dan Buckley was promoted from President, TV, Publishing & Brand Management to President, Marvel Entertainment replacing Alan Fine,[23] who stayed on as President of Marvel Worldwide, Inc. overseeing the company's publishing business until at least April 27, 2018.[24][25]

He has been credited as Executive Producers of Marvel's publishing, television and animation productions until the likely end of his contract with the company in December 2019.
