History
Early Life[]
Alex Flores was a talented and driven screenwriter living in Los Angeles with her young daughter, Jamie. She became acquainted with actor-turned-hero Wonder Man through mutual friends and neighbours in the apartment complex managed by Gloria Angel.[1] Unlike many in her creative circle, Alex initially showed little interest in Simon's superhero exploits. However, after he bonded with her daughter and became a fixture in their lives, Alex warmed to him. Her practical nature and storytelling instincts often made her the voice of reason among the group.[2]
Ionic Transformation[]
Alex was one of eight individuals present when Wonder Man was attacked by Angkor and subsequently suffered a violent burst of ionic energy.[2] The exposure subtly altered each of them. Alex eventually discovered she could generate tangible illusions, effectively creating solid objects or personas from her imagination.[3] These illusions were not only visible but could interact physically with the environment an ideal power for someone trained in crafting fictional realities.[4]
Founding the Crazy Eight[]
Although initially reluctant to participate in any superhero activity, Alex was persuaded by Esteban Beach (Stat) to lead the group of newly empowered allies.[5] She adopted the codename Auteur, embracing both her Hollywood background and her power to construct narrative-based illusions. As the leader of the Crazy Eight, Alex coordinated the group during their first mission against the corrupt private security firm Armed Response, which was secretly controlled by Lotus Newmark.[6] Under her guidance, the Eight successfully exposed the criminal operation. However, the team soon came under attack by assassins Splice and Rampage in retaliation.[7] During this ambush, Alex was critically injured, taking a near-fatal blow while protecting her daughter and teammates.[7]
Retirement[]
Following her injury, Alex's soul was drawn into a metaphysical conflict involving Mephisto, Blackheart, and the Grim Reaper.[8] Wonder Man was eventually able to defeat these forces and, in doing so, reabsorbed the ionic energy he had inadvertently shared with his allies. Alex's powers were fully removed in the process. She chose to return to a normal life, focusing on her daughter and screenwriting career.[8] After Wonder Man's apparent death in the battle with the alien Scatter[9]
Re-Married[]
Alex moved on in his absence and eventually married Felix Simon. Alex and Wonder Man reconnected when he was resurrected and parted as friends.[10]Attributes
