Alexander Ross was the father of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. He was the son of a Union Army hero under General Sherman and he himself rose to the rank of general in the Ardennes trenches during World War I.[1]

Being a career officer, Thaddeus reported seeing his father very rarely during his childhood.[2]
