History
Academy of Tomorrow[]
Alex Summers, aka Havok, was the headstrong, brash field leader of the Academy of Tomorrow, the mutant peacekeeping squad of Emma Frost. He was the boyfriend and teammate of Polaris.
He was also the older brother of Cyclops (Scott Summers) of the X-Men. Alex and Scott were frequently at odds with each other. Ideologically, their rift was evidenced by Alex's affiliation with the Academy of Tomorrow. They were also in competition over Polaris, who Cyclops may have dated in the past. Neither brother seemed interested in mending this rift. In one case, Alex even knocked Scott out with a wrench, though he stated that this was because Scott let him. The two helped each other during times of crisis, but, in general, they had a lot of sibling issues separating them. Their mutant powers had no effect on each other.
Ultimatum[]
Following Magneto's Ultimatum Wave which killed most of the X-Men, Scott gave a speech at an anti-mutant protest in Washington, D.C., pleading the innocence of the mutant race, but was assassinated by Quicksilver.
Havok managed to escape from Magneto's attack to the Academy of Tomorrow, and was put in the Kennerman Acres mental institute, where his only company was an imaginary version of his brother Scott. Alex was released from the institute by Nathaniel Essex. Nathaniel brought Alex to Roxxon, where he was introduced to Layla Miller, leading to them formulating as yet unknown plans.Attributes
Powers
Absorb cosmic energies from his environment (such as starlight, x-rays, and gamma radiation) and store them within his body's cells, metabolizing the energy in order to;
- Generate plasma wave discharges that super-heat and disintegrate objects
- Create concussion bursts by violently displacing air molecules in his path
- As a burst of thrust to launch him into the air
- Unlike his alternate self of Earth-616, he seemed to be able to control his powers
Notes
- In the Ultimate Universe, Havok is actually the older brother of Cyclops. He is traditionally the younger sibling in most incarnations of the character.
- Like his 616 counterpart Alex and his brother Scott are immune to one another's powers.[1]
Trivia
- Havok was the only known Summers family member to still be alive in the Ultimate Universe prior to Secret Wars.
