Synopsis for "Martians Attack!!"

This story is a reprint of the comic
All-New Invaders #12.

In 1922, James Montgomery Falsworth, the first Union Jack, who is borderline suicidal writes in his journal of recalling an incident on a Thursday afternoon in October of 1917 when Europe was embroiled in World War I. An incident in which London was invaded by Martians.

Prior to that, Falsworth and the members of the Freedom's Five - consisting of Sir Steel (Ned Chapel), the Phantom Eagle (Karl Kaufman), Iron Fist (Orson Randall), and the Crimson Cavalier (Jean-Luc Batroc) - were planning an incursion into enemy territory to foil a German mad scientist named Ursula Frankenstein who is apparently creating an army of "corpse soldiers." However, their plan was put on hold in the wake of the alien attack. Falsworth recalled that this isn't the first time that England was invaded by Martians as the first invasion had occurred and failed almost a decade ago in which the British government covered it up.

The Freedom's Five intervene in protecting the civilians from the Martians and their tripods. Although they managed to taking down a tripod, they barely have the means to stopping the Martians. Fortunately, an unexpected help arrived in the form of the enigmatic "Men in The Wall" armed with very advanced weapons and led by Eben Stafford, whom Falsworth would meet him again in an future exploit. With the tide turned against the Martians, the invaders chose to retreat through some kind of teleporation and apparently returning to their world. One of Stafford's men was inadvertently taken along as well. The Men in The Wall opted to their own exit as suddenly as they had first appeared.

After the end of World War I, Falsworth reveal the fates of the Freedom's Five: Karl Kaufman was killed in action during the closing end of the war; Ned Chapel died by the influenza epidemic of 1919; Orson Randall was last seen in Limehouse while partaking in opium and was never heard from again; and Jean-Luc Batroc returned to his life of crime.

In the present day, the modern Union Jack, Spitfire, and Destroyer are finish reading Falsworth's journal. They are searching for answers relating to a recent Martian incursion, but leaving only mysteries as to what the aliens are here for. However, Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, brought over a man named Jonathan Raven who has the answers. Jonathan Raven explains that he is known as Killraven hailing from another reality in which Earth was dominated by the Martians and has been leading a eternal resistance against the aliens, who are searching for him.
