The Shadow King was advised to kidnap Illyana Rasputina's mind in the astral plane as a means of luring Charles Xavier to him.
Sure enough, Xavier, Jean Grey and Emma Frost entered the astral plane to rescue Illyana. They succeeded, but Xavier was trapped in Shadow King's domain.
Farouk manipulated Xavier's memories on the plane, turning him against his X-Men; when they came to rescue him. But Eventually, Xavier regained his full memories and battled the Shadow King one-on-one, vanquishing Farouk.[1]See Also
