Synopsis for "Back to Basics: Part Two"

Following Spider-Man's stopping Man Mountain Marko and The Ringer from robbing a book fair, Peter spends a peaceful night with Mary Jane. After the two wake up together and have breakfast, Peter heads to ESU and the story catches up from the end of the last issue.

While Peter freaks out by Curt Connors as Lizard, everyone around him is calm and Connors resumes his human form to explain his Inhibitor Chip allowing him control of his Lizard form. Cindy Lawton tells Peter that Connors sold many of his patents to get a second chance job at ESU, and in the spirit of "second chances" Connors offers Peter a student enrollment. Talking in private, Connors is aware of Peter's predicament with his doctorate and job loss, offering a position in Connor's accelerated program not wanting to see Peter's potential genius go to waste and shows Peter their current project: The Isotope Genome Accelerator. Connors mentions how Peter mentioned the device in his first editorial how it fueled his drive for science in high school.

As the Isotope Genome Accelerator transmutes characteristics from one organism onto another, Connors was attempting to discern if he could reverse that and split the Lizard from the man. However, Taskmaster and Black Ant burst in so as to steal the Accelerator, as Connors can't fight due to his Inhibitor Chip. Needing a distraction, Peter insults Taskmaster until he is thrown across the room at a chemical set. Using the chemicals to cause a smoke screen, a more chattery Spider-Man leaps into the fray and defeats Masters and O'Grady. As Spider-Man helps a student up, he realizes they are Peter Parker, and Peter realizes he is Spider-Man.
