Synopsis for 1st story
In Maxine Danger's office, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing are ordered to explain the series of events that led to their being blood-soaked and in her office. Earlier that morning, Spider-Man (Ben Reilly) entered a holo-deck training room annoyed at it being "Avengers Murder Mansion", him thinking John Walker likely never underwent such a thing. With some X-Men references of Colleen's added in while the holo-horror-Avengers run interference with Ben's run for the exit goal, Ben was caught by Misty thus ending the simulation in his defeat. As Ben and Misty commented on the latter's holo-costume, Colleen interjected that Misty was cast as the "final girl" in horror movie tropes. Resuming his lesson, Ben acknowledged the training's lesson being that he can get blindsided with enough threats overloading his spider sense. With that complete, Maxine spoke with Misty and Colleen privately to assign them to stop a monster which Beyond dubbed "Obsidian Star" for positive word of mouth; and that they cannot simply wait for someone to show if they can respond.
In the present, both were annoyed by the mission as they ended up covered in monster blood, but admired the gear Maxine supplied. Back to their recounting events, Misty read the manual on their gear while Colleen drove the car, but the "Pocket Battlefield" capture gear struck Obsidian Star and encased a whole city block, despite being designed for three meters. Entrapped with Obsidian Star in the "Avengers Murder Mansion" simulation from earlier, Colleen was impressed by the level of her design while Misty called Maxine in a fit demanding answers. As Beyond's geniuses believe Obsidian's alien energy source affected the Pocket Battlefield, made from recovered Kree tech, thus they had no way to deactivate it remotely, forcing Misty and Colleen to complete the simulation and remove Obsidian Star's power source to escape. With Maxine confident in the Daughters of the Dragon, unbeknownst to the them, Maxine ordered tech support to record everything as it was a prime field test, as the pair confronted the simulation made tangibly real from Obsidian's power source.
Having cleared through the mansion obstacles, both are greatly fatigued before Colleen realized that Obsidian Star isn't trapped with them in the simulation, but had become the simulation. Once Misty understood, she used the Anti-Matter grenade from Maxine's gifted supplies, killing Obsidian Star so Misty can rummage into the corpse to retrieve the power source. In the present, Maxine inquires if they found it as the anti-matter bomb knocked out sensors, leaving Beyond blind to monitoring them. While secretly they found Obsidian Star's power source, really the Heartstar, and both state that they found nothing after an exhausted search. Angered at their returning with nothing, Misty and Colleen bring up how Maxine's tone rings of accusation, given she sent them out to "save people", with them asking if she was simply out to get a new exotic power source. With Maxine left speechless, Misty and Colleen take their leave and a shared sick day off, which they use to secretly hand Monica Rambeau the Obsidian Star, her knowing where it needed to go.
