Synopsis for 1st story
Earlier in Beyond Tower, Ashley Kafka was coercively altered into Queen Goblin as technicians oversee her transformation, themselves overseen by Maxine Danger. In this time, her mind succumbs to the alterations, seeing her "higher calling" as ruling those she once guided with strength. With the metamorphosis complete, she breaks her restraints and kills the technicians attending her. As she slaughters them, Maxine is in awe of her creation's bloodlust, as Queen Goblin moves to take her armor. On departure, Queen Goblin sees change as painful to bring healing, but the healing brings the madness as clarity.
Over at McCarthy, nurse Lois wheels Peter to his room after a successful physical therapy session, where he fumbles in private to perform a stable wall-crawl before Black Cat arrives to resume his Spider-Man therapy. However, with breaking news of Queen Goblin attacking the Daily Bugle, Peter wants to intervene while Felicia orders he not as his initial return was a disaster.[1] Concerned for him, Felicia webs Peter to his bed to see if he can escape and claim his web-shooters to prove if he's ready. Felicia heads out and leaves Peter until the webs dissolve before the next nurse shift, as he is in panic seeing a goblin on screen.
At the Daily Bugle, Queen Goblin comes to Mary Jane's pleas for help seeking to "help" her through her issues. Citing minor acting career, former club owning and short-lived Stark employment, she takes Mary Jane by the head ready to use her Goblin Gaze, but another man's cries for help are heard and goes to him. As he begs not to fall, she cruelly jokes at his admitting a problem and moves her scepter to him, killing him as he grabs hold trying not to fall. Mary Jane retaliates with a punch to Queen Goblin, distracting her for Black Cat to arrive and knocks back the goblin to save Mary Jane.
Momentarily safe, Felicia asks for an update and Mary Jane informs her that Janine was going to whistleblow on Beyond's corruption before the newest goblin arrived. However, Ben arrived but escaped with Janine and left everyone else to Queen Goblin's mercy. Felicia voices confidence in Ben's return as he holds the Spider-Man mantle, despite Mary Jane's disbelief, and leaves to confront Queen Goblin again. But black Cat is blindsided by the new villain, who uses her Goblin Gaze to pear into Felicia's mind and play on her uncertainties to coerce a mental conclusion of worthlessness.
As Mary Jane is afraid for Felicia, Queen Goblin's glider splits to make a ledge for her to walk off from and she tearfully does. Thankfully, Peter arrives having escaped his confinement from earlier and safely catches Felicia from an adjacent rooftop, much to Mary Jane's joyful relief. Focusing off the horrible pain, Peter swings Felicia over to Mary Jane, as Felicia recounts what Queen Goblin did to her. After telling Peter of Ben's uncharacteristic abandonment, she pulls out his suit and Web-Shooters from Felicia's bag, also asking if it would kill his fellow Spiders to carry a first aid supply.
Feeling he's ready, they give him his Spider-Man gear to face Queen Goblin as they get to safety. But Mary Jane notes his unsteady movement, while he reassures both noting he escaped his webbing. However, Peter was actually unable to escape five minutes earlier as the news covered Black Cat's arrival. Too fatigued to escape on his own, Peter was visited by Janine who found him from Ben's directions a while before. But with Ben out of character and the danger Queen Goblin poses, Janine used a knife to free peter in need of his help, whether he was ready or not.
