Synopsis for "Spider-Man vs. Chasm"
As they fight, a Chasm imperfectly recounts Spider-Man's stopping his only chance to regain his formative memories and falling into psycho-reactive goo.[1] That betrayal sent him to Hell, but now Chasm asks Spider-Man "who's in Hell now?" as New York City is besieged by Demons. Peter immediately refutes events recalled and even notes Ben's memories were destroyed by his own admission. But not wanting to get into a crazed game of wordplay and semantics, Spider-Man notes his longer experience and outmaneuvers Chasm to knock him into a garbage pile. However, Spider-Man's attempted flank is counted by Chasm's spider-sense, mutated into an offensive counter ability after exposure to the psycho-reactive goo-- which Spider-Man reminds Chasm he jumped into. While Spider-Man may have more tricks, Chasm has new tricks and fashions an axe from his corrupted web fluid and counters Spider-Man's catch with a blunt club formed from web fluid.
Uptown at the X-Men's treehouse, where there lay digitized souls holding the memories Goblin Queen seeks and Hallows' Eve prepares Venom for his part in causing a distraction.[2] On Goblin Queen's order, Hallows' Eve puts on a Frankenstein Monster mask to shapeshift, becoming akin to the mask's likeness. She punts Venom toward the treehouse to commence her end of the plan, which requires her dexterity, and Hallows' Eve swears not to let her down. With the upper hand, Chasm prepares a new item, but Spider-Man sucker punches him to drop it, so Chasm lectures Spider-Man that he won't win as he's still holding back after so long, to the point where he doesn't realize he is doing it. Despite Spider-Man's attempts to reach Ben, his corrupted clone strikes him harder demanding he is called Chasm, unleashing unrestrained strength to overwhelm his cogent progenitor.
Retrieving the orb, Chasm chants into it and tosses it to Peter, which presents an image of the frightened Robbie Robertson and J. Jonah Jameson. Spider-Man demands to know where they are, to which Chasm answers they've been taken to Limbo, and Chasm leads Spider-Man into intentionally saying he wants to go to Limbo. Chasm then reveals that Goblin Queen mentioned a tentacled creature would appear if someone said so and meant it, said creature appears and Chasm thanks Peter as some spells require "participation." As Peter swears they're not done, Chasm concurs and tells Peter that when he opens his eyes, he'll be in Limbo. While Chasm will follow Peter shortly, he takes a few minutes to enjoy the havoc he's caused, ending a fantastic day. When Peter opens his eyes, he finds himself in his old sweater vest in a newsroom questioning his situation. Across the way, a demon acting as Jonah tells Peter that this is his new life and to get to work, surrounded by other demons playing the roles of journalists.
