History
Origins[]
Possessing bottomless cash reserves and a brilliant intellect, Tony Stark knows all about privilege. He has the resources to turn any challenge into a success, thanks to his own mind and the wealth from his father's corporation. After a deadly bomb blast, he even transformed the shrapnel lodged in his chest and threatening his heart into a net-benefit; it pushed him to perfect not only his innovative Arc Reactor, but also a hi-tech suit of armor.
The World of Spooky[]
After the return of Lilith, Doctor Strange and Iron Man went to see Johnny Blaze for the page of the Darkhold in his possession, but he refused to provide help. Tony received an urgent message from Bruce Banner warning of an imminent danger to the Sanctum Sanctorum, prompting Strange to conjure a portal that transported them there. The Sanctum was attacked by Hydra forces who got inside through a portal. Joined by Captain Marvel, the heroes dealt with the minions, but when Lilith herself showed up, they could do nothing against her. Iron Man was placed by Lilith into a time stasis but the magic users just barely managed to push her back through the portal.[1]
Doctor Strange took Tony and Carol to the Abbey, hidden inside a Pocket Dimension in Salem (Massachusetts). The Avengers were introduced to the Midnight Suns and the Caretaker, and watched as Sarah and Strange resurrected Hunter, Lilith's child and the only one to have ever defeated her. The Sanctum Sanctorum had been taken over by Lilith's Hydra forces, and Tony and the other Avengers joined the Midnight Suns in their fight against Lilith, while also making themselves a new home in the Abbey. Tony provided all others with access to the superhero-only "Superlink" social network of his own design and got to work at the Abbey's mystical Forge powered by an ancient Babylonian demon. He had to share his workspace with Stephen Strange whom Tony annoyed by calling him "Doctor Spooky". Being unfamiliar with magic, Tony was incredibly uncomfortable living and working in the place that was so rich with it, being afraid that life-threatening dangers were lurking and waiting for him at every turn. Nevertheless, he participated in the Shop Class organized by Robbie Reyes and Peter Parker and developed a friendship with the Hunter.[1]
When Bruce Banner alerted them that the Avengers Tower was under the assault of Hydra, Iron Man responded personally, taking the Hunter with him. They observed Captain America engaged in combat with Hydra forces on the rooftop. A squadron of Hydra helicopters launched missiles at the Tower, and though Iron Man intercepted most of them, one missile got through, damaging the top floors. Crossbones then descended to the rooftop and engaged the heroes in battle. After being defeated, Crossbones leapt from the Tower's edge onto a helicopter. Banner was hanging on the ladder, taunting the heroes and expressing gratitude for the Gamma Accelerator he took from the Tower, having fallen under Lilith's corrupting influence. Banner then triggered a series of explosions throughout Avengers Tower as the team narrowly escaped back to the Abbey. Tony was profoundly affected by Bruce's loss and troubled by his decision to prioritize a friend's life over potentially saving the world.[1]
To get back inside the Sanctum, Tony and Strange required a sample from the Venom Symbiote to analyze how to protect Hunter from the reaction that had occurred during their last encounter. The sample analysis had succeeded, and Tony began working on an "anti-Venom" suit using the Symbiote sample. Carol was operating C.E.N.T.R.A.L. when peculiar errors featuring Latin text appeared, translated as "do not trust the horse, Trojans," which Tony recognized as an alert from one of his father Howard's security protocols indicating unauthorized access to a sensitive project. [1]
Destroying the Parchment[]
Iron Man and Hunter immediately departed for the location but quickly realizing that Banner had deliberately triggered the security protocol to lure them there. Banner attempted to persuade Tony to join him in completing Howard's work, but Tony declined. Banner fled, summoning a Dread Maiden. Iron Man apologized for his impulsiveness and proceeded to destroy his father's equipment to erasing the information within. Back at the Abbey, Iron Man explained that his father developed numerous powerful weapons but harbored a particular interest in Gamma Radiation, dreaming of creating a Gamma Accelerator, a device that would pose extreme danger if Banner succeeded in utilizing Howard's original plans to construct one. Tony revealed his belief that the Gamma Accelerator could potentially destroy the Parchment of Power, prompting Doctor Strange to highlight the significant implication: destruction of the Parchment would render the Prophecy's fulfillment impossible. Tony was enthusiastic about the Gamma Accelerator's eventual recovery, while Doctor Strange expressed doubt regarding Tony's apocalypse-prevention plan, believing that only Chthon could stop Chthon.[1]
Tony showcased the completed Gamma Accelerator and briefed the team on his strategy destroy the supposedly indestructible Parchment of Power with an enormous ray gun, despite Doctor Strange's continued objections that this was impossible. Tony explained that the Los Diablos Missile Base remained saturated with gamma radiation; he intended to utilize the Gamma Accelerator to absorb this radiation and supercharge it to power his Gamma Cannon, asking everyone present to assist in this undertaking. Though Johnny Blaze sacrificed himself to place the Parchment into the Cannon's blast, Banner leapt from the helicopter into the blast zone. A tremendous explosion cleared to reveal Fallen Hulk standing triumphantly with the Parchment clutched in his hand. Back at the Abbey, Steve and Tony engaged in a heated argument, with Steve attempting to convince Tony that after this catastrophic failure, he might need to consider others' perspectives and solutions, while Tony remained obstinate and insisted he alone could rectify the situation.[1]
Iron man joined the others in the final confrontation with Lilith at the Temple of Chthon, which ended with the threat being dealt with, at the cost of losing Hunter to the Darkhold.[1]Trivia
