History
Suspecting that the Venom symbiote would develop an immunity to the medication he had developed for its toxic shock syndrome, Alchemax astrobiologist Dr. Steve began creating a new cure derived from the Anti-Venom symbiote.
Desiring to reclaim the symbiote and become Agent Venom again, Flash Thompson confronted its host, Eddie Brock, at Alchemax's astrobiology lab. Conflicted over having to choose one of its two favorite hosts over the other, Venom attempted to bond to both of them at the same time. Spider-Man intervened intending to kill the symbiote and "save" both Flash and Eddie from it, overturning one of the vats of Anti-Venom serum. Flash was doused in it, and the symbiote biomass bonded to him was altered into an artificial replica of the original Anti-Venom symbiote.[1] When Flash Lee Price stole Andi Benton's symbiote to Maniac and began assembling an army of symbiote-controlled criminals, Flash used the newly created Anti-Venom to cut off Maniac's mind control over the Inklings. Using antibodies developed by those who'd been freed from Price's control, Flash then weakened Price's symbiote with the help of Spider-Man, Venom, and Black Cat.[2]
When it became known that the Poisons were using symbiotes to attack superheroes, Alchemax called in a favor to Flash to use the properties of his symbiote's antibodies. This turned out to be lethal to the consumed heroes leaving only a puddle with no sign of a human host inside. Although he likewise used them against consumed heroes, the Poisons perished after the Poison Queen was destroyed.[3]
When Norman Osborn used the Carnage symbiote to become the Red Goblin and kill Spider-Man's relatives, Flash was forced to use the Anti-Venom symbiote to heal their allies, leaving it weakened and unable to fully heal Flash in battle. When Agent Anti-Venom confronted the Red Goblin, it barely had any effect on him and Norman took this opportunity to kill Flash in cold blood, and his Anti-Venom symbiote along with him.[4]
Using samples of Agent Anti-Venom's symbiote, Dr. Steven was able to produce more Anti-Venom serum.[5] Inspired by the second Anti-Venom symbiote's creation, Dr. Steven created mass-produced Anti-Venom battlesuits by mixing samples of Weapon V's Sym-Suits - cloned offshoots of the Grendel symbiote-dragon that had been lobotomized and severed from the Symbiote Hive-Mind to prevent them from taking over their hosts - with the Anti-Venom serum.[6][7]
After its death, the symbiote joined Flash in the Klyntar's Hive-Mind, where his consciousness was stored as a codex after his death. Together, they joined Rex Strickland's army of former symbiote hosts to battle the dark elder symbiote god Knull. Flash Thompson's codex was able to free the trapped symbiotes and join them by re-emerging in the real world as a white dragon-symbiote.[citation needed]
It is unclear what happened to the Anti-Venom symbiote in the Hive-Mind. Although it can be presumed that it was resurrected and is now part of the new Anti-Venom symbiote. The Anti-Venom serum created from it was used in the creation of the Silence, an Anti-Venom symbiote strain, and Misery symbiotes.[8][5]
Iterations and Offshoots[]
- Silence - Following the death of the Scream symbiote,[9] Dr. Steven harvested samples obtained from the skin and blood of its host, Andi Benton.[10] When his efforts to revitalize the Scream symbiote proved unsuccessful, Dr. Steven spliced its remains with a sample of Anti-Venom, creating a new symbiote.
