History

Allegedly, according to the ancient Zoroastrian lore, Ahura Mazda, the creator god, emerged from the personification of infinite time, Zurvan. A wise and benevolent representing truth, order and justice, Ahura Mazda started populating his domain with life. His birth was soon followed in the one of his twisted mirror image and antithesis, Ahriman, who personified deceit and chaos. Ahriman rejected the peace offerings of Ahura Mazda and tried to kill the life who had been imbued in his domain. After a prolonged battle, narrowly overcame and banished him to the Nether Realms.[1]

Atar, god of fire, was one of the Yazatas created by Ahura Mazda to uphold order and justice and in preparation for Ahriman's return.[1]

Banished, Ahmriman created the Divs, demonic gods with the sole purpose of opposing the Yazatas. Since then, the two groups have waged an endless war against each often, often using mortals as pawn in attempt to gain the upper hand.[1]

The Yazatas ended up being worshiped on Earth in the Persian/Iranian plateau, as well as in Central Asia and India, from 1000 BC into modern days. The nexus between Earth and Elysium was indeed located on Mount Damavand in the Alborz Mountains and at Naqsh-e Rustam (within modern-day Iran).[1]

Attributes

Powers

Atar possesses the conventional physical attributes of the Daevas.[citation needed]

Presumably all of the Yazatas' powers.

Atar also has several powers mystical in nature. He seems be able to control fire to use it in purifying objects tainted by impure or demonic taint,[citation needed] but he has yet to demonstrate the full range of his power. According to his worshipers, he could purify objects be eating them and then returning the purified objects.[citation needed] He can purify earth as well by burning it.[citation needed] He can also cross between various dimensions to guide the cremated dead to the afterlife.[citation needed] He is semi-omniscient; because he is linked to fire in all its forms, he is aware of everything that occurs around him.[citation needed] The full range of his power is unrevealed.

Abilities

Atar is a capable warrior in armed and unarmed combat.[citation needed]

Paraphernalia

Weapons

Atar is well-versed in the use of all forms of Hindu weaponry.[citation needed]

Notes

Asha is a Zoroastrian god of fire as well.[1]
