The kingdom of Atlantis was the monarchy that existed from 6,000 BC into the Modern Age, formed by the water-breathing Atlanteans (Homo mermanus) that established themselves in the sunken ruins of Pre-Cataclysmic Atlantis.

History

Before Atlantis[]

Before the rise of the "modern" Atlantean kingdom, many Atlantis have existed:

Namor stated that Atlantis was the first human civilization on Earth,[7] though this claim is contradicted by numerous accounts.

Origin[]

Multiple accounts and theories exist to the creation of the water-breathing Atlanteans.

According to the Atlantean religion, it was Neptune who created the Homo mermani approximately 10,000 years ago, after Atlantis sunk.[8][9]

For millennia, the tribe of Homo mermanus were nomadic, wandering the Atlantic Ocean, preying upon small fish for food, using shells of huge crustaceans for shelter, and developing nothing but the most rudimentary tool-making culture.[10] They battled and eventually tamed the sea-monsters of the depths.[11]

The Atlanteans battling the Great Old Ones and their spawn

War with the Great Old Ones[]

When the Atlanteans came to the seas, they battled the Great Old Ones for millennia, eventually driving them into the depths, killing them and imprisoning those they couldn't destroy. Prisons included shadow, void, or stone, such as the Unforgotten Stone, a solid manifestation of their evil power, or even perhaps of their twisted souls. The Unforgotten Stone (and possibly other similar prisons) were entombed by Atlantis, but no matter the security, they often escaped on their own (or by being stolen).

Some of the Great Old Ones' spawns persisted,[3] such as the Aqueos, who vampirized Atlanteans, Lemurians, and other undersea peoples (all collectively described as "Vampires") and Faceless Ones. An unidentified "other" type within the Aqueos also existed, believed to be connected to the "ancient, otherworldly evil",[4] the ancient "things".[12] that are the Great Old Ones.[3] The Shark Men, a species that had evolved so they could worship the Dark King, an Old One, also became the ancient enemies of the Atlanteans.[13]

Eastern/Western Seas Tribes war (6,000 BC)[]

Circa 6000 BC, about 12,000 years after the cataclysm,[14] two major tribes of Atlanteans warred against each other:

  • King Stegor was the king of the nomadic Eastern Sea tribe barbarians who wandered and plundered the Eastern Sea, the eastern part of what is now the North Atlantic Ocean. Stegor was accompanied by both his son, Kamuu (a boy at the time), and his brother, Orrek.
  • King Tanas and Queen Elanna the similarly-barbaric and nomadic Western Sea tribe.[15] They were accompanied by their daughter Zartra.[16]

As both tribes sought to claim the sunken ruins of Pre-Cataclysmic Atlantis and its long-forgotten treasures, they met in the field. The two rulers engaged in customary single combat before the fighting, and Tanas was slain. Stegor's widow Elanna led the charge against Stegor's hordes, slew Stegor, pierced his heart with her standard, and declared herself ruler of the seas.[15]

Atlantis' foundation and Kamuu's rule (6,000-5,930 BC)[]

Kamuu founded the kingdom of Atlantis and ruled as its first king.[16] The lost city was rebuilt as Atlantis, dedicated to Neptune. Atlantis expanded into new colonies and welcomed other tribes and races.[17]

Kamuu fathered Harran.[16]

Harran's rule (5,930-5,900 BC)[]

Circa 5,930 BC,[14][17] after Kamuu's death, Harran succeeded him as king.[18]

Harran fathered Kalen who later left Atlantis, undertaking an undisclosed sojourn.[18]

Circa 5,900 BC[14][19][17][20] in the third decade after the death of Kamuu, the mid-Atlantic city of Atlantis was besieged by the Faceless Ones.[18] Suma-Ket, the leader of the Old Ones-worshiping Unforgiven Dead (also known as the Old Ones themselves)[21] saved Atlantis from the invasion. In consequence, the Atlanteans slew their king Harran, and proclaimed Ket their king. Along with his followers, Ket brought a reign or terror and a bloodthirsty religion to Atlantis and sacrificed hundreds over many years to their dark gods.[17]
Other accounts set this event circa 5,800 BC.[1][21][22]

Suma-Ket's usurpation and Kalen's restoration (5,900 BC)[]

After many[14][17] years of travel, Kalen returned to Atlantis. Astonished with his people's plight, he pleaded with his people to return to the worshiping of Neptune. Kalen slew one of Suma-Ket's tribe women as she prepared to sacrifice a child to her evil gods. This act rallied the people against Ket and his wife Artys-Gran.[18] Kalen, assisted by Neptune himself, rallied the people and banished Ket and his followers into the mystic void known as the Grey Waters.

Afterwards, the Atlanteans became withdrawn and distrustful.[17]

Lemuria foundation (5,500 BC)[]

About 500 years after the founding of undersea Atlantis,[10] and 400 years after the fall of Suma-Ket, This mindset eventually led and a group of Homo mermanus grew dissatisfied with Atlantis enough to leave the city[17] and make their way to the Pacific Ocean. This group founded the city of Lemuria on the opposite end of the now submerged continent of Lemuria from that settled by the Deviants. Due to the acquisition and worship of the Serpent Crown, the magical artifacts from the pre-cataclysmic Atlantis, the Lemurians' complexions and features have taken a more serpentine cast than their Atlanteans forebears.[10] Lemuria became an independent nation, and sometimes a threat to Atlantis.

It was possibly during those years of suspicion that Atlantis banished peaceful followers of a minor faith, later known as the People of the Black Sea.[17]

Little is known about Atlanteans history between the time of the founding of Lemuria and the modern era. The Atlanteans' historical records, graven in stone until the relatively recent invention of a paper-like substance made from seaweed, had been all but lost in the dark ages of Atlantean history.[10]

The undersea city of Atlantis fell victim to natural disasters and sieges by barbarian tribes over the next few millennia, but each time Atlantis was rebuilt in even greater splendor.[10]

Kam'u's rule (5,000 BC)[]

Circa 5,000 BC (seventy centuries ago), Lord Kam'u was king of Atlantis. He attempted to make peace with Athens by sending emissaries to appeal for trade between the two countries, in order to feed their starving masses. The Athenians instead butchered the emissaries and invaded his realm, causing Kam'u to strike back.[23] He allegedly eventually let down his people, and ended up in Hell upon his death.[24]

Undisclosed time events[]

At an undisclosed point in time:

  • The following emperors and kings ruled, and allegedly eventually let down their people, and ended up in Hell upon their death:
    • During his rule as the king of Atlantis, Zalphir helped his people survive a century of captivity.[24]
    • Rithea became the first and only female emperor of Atlantis.[25]
    • During his rule as the king of Atlantis, Hensel presided over five bloody wars.[24]
  • The Sirenas, "Mermaids from the Sulu Sea",[26] became ancestral enemies of Atlantis, both parties blaming the other one:
    • According to the Atlanteans, the dragon "Kala Teer" protected their people for generation from the waves of Sirena hordes. Countless of these "savages" turned back from Atlantis. Although, always more Sirenas lurked, waiting the chance to strike at Atlantis.
    • According to the Sirenas, the dragon "Kalak Ti'er" murdered and preyed upon the Sirenas for generation. A thousand Sirenas were killed, while Atlantis laughed at the slaughter.[26]
  • The Old Kings of Atlantis, three aquatic humanoid races that survived the Great Fall; the Mala, the Chordai, and the Uhari,[27] were, according to Homo mermani records, the scourge of the ocean, acting as predators, pillagers and parasites. They killed, possessed, or consumed all things.[28] They warred with the Homo mermani,[29] but were eventually defeated and hunted to extinction. They were stricken from the Atlantean books of knowledge, save for secrets chronicles passed down from king to king, and were considered "relics from a darker time" to the later Atlanteans.[28] The Old Atlanteans remained in the hidden Antarctic city of Old Atlantis under Lake Vostok,[29] at the the Peak.[27]

The datation around those Old Kings contradicts all established chronology: The Old Atlanteans went on into the Modern Age while being hidden within Lake Vostok, which was not breached for about 500,000 years.[27] Susan Storm mentioned "hundred of thousands of years" separating modern-days from the days the Atlanteans suffered from the Old Atlanteans.[28]

King Ossem's rule (0 AD)[]

Over 3000 years after the foundation of Lemuria[17] and roughly 2000 years ago,[30] Atlantis was struck by a series of natural disasters and deadly attacks from the Skarka barbarians.[17] The Skarka were driven out but with many casualties and putting the Atlanteans in a vengeful mindset.[30]

This led to Prince Balaal spreading the worship of Set among the Atlanteans who turned away from Neptune, despite the opposition of of his father,[17] King Ossem,[31] Patriarch of the Atlanteans against their bloodlust vengeance and new god.

By then, Neptune was said to be intolerant of dissent to his rule. Ossem informed Neptune of the cult of Set but was denied help from Neptune. Returning in Atlantis, Ossem was captured and brought before the Golden Serpent, an idol created by the cult to absorb and magnify their psychic energy, in order to summon Set on Earth. This required from Balaal the sacrificing of Ossem, which would also make him ruler of Atlantis. Neptune timely intervened, slaying all the worshipers of Set and destroying the Golden Serpent, but sparring Ossem. Set had almost manifested through a sphere, who was covered by Neptune with a dome, and guarded by a an immense monster. That place would become known as the Altar of Neptune's Wrath. In fear of Neptune's anger, the rest of the people of Atlantis fled.

Ossem searched for his scattered people over many decades, reuniting them as a nation who began rebuilt the city of Atlantis though himself did not enter it. On his deathbed, he refused to die until Neptune agreed to lead his people.[30]

Neptune's rule[]

After Ossem's death, Neptune lived among the Atlanteans, leading them to victory,[17] promoting his worship,[10] and ushering an age of prosperity, which was symbolized by the sacred trident he left as a symbol to the high priests of his worship. The Horn of Proteus was possibly another gift from Neptune to Atlantis.

This age of peace led to cultural and scientific development, and may be the period where the Atlanteans created the Behemoth, the Retrievers or android operatives.[17]

Around 500 AD, the humans mostly stopped worshiping the Olympians who no longer sought worshipers on Earth, except for Neptune, who remained the patron god of the Atlanteans.[32]

Thallo's rule (16th century)[]

During the 15th century,[citation needed] or 16th century,[17] Thallo was the King of Atlantis. During that period, the scientist Kyral, developed a cloning process which could be used to grow and develop food. The process was eventually stolen and then used to create a slave race for the Atlantean people. This state of things lasted for many years.[33]

By the 16th century, clones greatly outnumbered Atlanteans.[17] A rebel slave known as Delta Nine led a rebellion to gain freedom and equal rights for his people. At this point, Thallo ordered the death of all of the slaves, the so-called Night of Long Spears, and outlawed cloning.[33][17]

The path of violent policies begun by the clone genocide ushered new oppression upon Atlantean society: Freethinkers often became outcasts, such as the poet and religious reformer[17] and poet Numara D'athahr, a religious outcast that opposed the Atlantean monarchy around four centuries ago.[34] It was presumed that the enmity with the Aerie (home of the Inhuman-descended Bird People) and the hostility towards the surface stemmed from this era.[17]

The Atlanteans encountered Deviant refugees at some time in the past 200 years, and it was from them that they learned the rudiments of technology. The Atlanteans had very limited contact with their surface-dwelling parent race until recent times. This was largely due to the fact that neither water-breathers nor air-breathers could survive outside of their native environment for more than minutes without drowning.[10]

Immanu's rule (18th century to 1847)[]

In the 18th or early 19th century, Emperor Immanu ordered the Royal Logomancer Amra to create a spell to destroy the Aqueos. The spell remained incomplete for decades, though enhanced and adjusted by subsequent logomancers.[12]

In the early 19th century, Atlantis had rediscovered science, in part thanks to the influence of Deviant refugees.[17]

Immanu's son Thakorr was born in the early 19th century.

Circa 1847, Immanu was killed before Thakorr's eyes by Skarka barbarians in a battle that destroyed the mid-Atlantic city Atlantis,[35] slew many and drove the survivors out of their ancestral home.[17]

Thakorr's rule (1847-1958)[]

As the new emperor, Thakorr had his people move to the Antarctic Ocean, where they built a new Atlantis.sometimes named "Thakorr" itself in his honor.[17][35] There, they repelled invasions from the Seal People and other underwater races.[17]

At some point, Emperor Thakorr married Queen Korra, and fathered two daughters, Fen and Zarina, and a son named Daka. He also had an unidentified adopted son.[35]

1920s[]

In early 1920, Atlantis was damaged by explosions from the surface conducted by human explorers. Thakorr's daughter Fen investigated, and fell in love woth Leonard McKenzie, and Namor was born later in the same year.[17] Similarly, Thakorr's adoptive son had a relation with a surface woman, and fathered the similarly-powered Aquaria Neptunia (Namora).

In 1928, Thakorr banished the honored geneticist Vyrra for trying to revive the forbidden cloning sciences.[35]

1930s[]

In the early 1930s, Thakorr relocated Atlantis to a new site off the United States Pacific Northwest:[35] a third major Atlantean city was founded, its colonization led by the royal family itself, perhaps in hope of laying foundation for a multi-ocean empire.[17] There, Thakorr and his Korra entered an agreement with human businessman Henry Piece for drilling oil near Atlantis to promote harmony between Atlantis and the surface.[35]

In 1936,[17] Thakorr's grandson Beemer caused a leak and ensuing ecological damage, the agreement was cancelled and Atlanteans renewed their distrust of humanity, possibly due to their technology. The Atlanteans returned to Antarctic Atlantis.

At some point, Thakorr allegedly took his distant cousin Brynn as second wife and accepted his grandson as stepson.[35]

World War II[]

1939[]

In 1939, when Namor slew divers by accident, and sent by Thakoor against the surface world as an excuse. Namor, initially reluctant, accepted, and soon allied with the United States of America and the Allies during World War II. Thakorr approved it, the Axis being the greatest threat to Atlantis, and Thakorr, along with the Council of Three, appointed Namor commander-in-chief of the Atlantean armed forces and allowed him to fight alongside the Allies against the Nazis.[35]

1940[]

By mid-1940, Namor led all-out assaults against Nazi vessels and bases, while single-handedly destroying many.[17]

Around that time, US authorities attempted to execute Namor for previous deaths and damages he had caused. Thakorr allowed Namor to attack New York in retaliation, but was opposed by Human Torch and calmed down by his friend Betty Dean. Returning to Atlantis, Namor disappointed Thakorr by abandoning his mission, and was consequently suspended from military duties. New Yorker Luther Robinson and his girlfriend Lynne Harris led an expedition to capture Namor, but were captured and subsequently escape before trial.

Later, the Human Torch came to Atlantis requesting aid against a Nazi fleet, and Namor was allowed use of Atlantean military to assist the Torch. Subsequently, Namor was declared an American hero.[35]

1941[]

In early 1941,[17] Nazi forces attacked Atlantis in retaliation, and killed hundred of Atlanteans, while gravely wounding Thakorr. Namor assumed command [35]

After at least two Nazi plague-spreading endeavors, causing repeated structural damage to Atlantis,[17] Namor foolishly entered an alliance of nearly half a dozen undersea races in order to conquer the surface. This alliance included the Balticans led by Princess Rathia,[17] and the Seal People, led by Lonu-Ne.[35]

Possibly mentally influenced by Rathia, he attacked many nations including Germany, Great Britain, the United States and Italy, and seized control of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean Sea, before repenting of his endeavor. He however soon return to the fight.[17] Daka saw this as weakness and seized power,[14] allying with the rebels organized under him with the Seal People and the Nazis.

After freeing the Druids of Rockhenge, another undersea civilization, from the Nazis, he returned to Atlantis where Daka had seized the throne,[17] . Along with Thakorr's loyalists, Namor broke up the alliance and turned Daka and Lonu-Ne to the surface authorities.[35] Namor reclaimed the throne, and in rapid succession led Atlantean troops in guerilla raids against Vichy France, as well as in attacks against Japanese forces, both to free US holdings and prevent Japanese invasions of Australia and the US.[17]

1942-45[]

In 1942, Namor had joined the Invaders and led Atlantean raids on Axis-occupied territory (including a notable clash with General Erwin Rommel's tank corps in the Sahara Desert), but was undercut by Fen who believe the Nazis stronger, and briefly renewed ties with Germany before Namor drove out her would-be allies.

Soon, another Nazi attack on Atlantis, using biological warfare, was answered with the destruction of an undersea Nazi base along with Admiral von Roeder's "Metal Men" robot dreadnoughts by Namor and Atlantean forces.[36]

In 1943, Atlantean troops protected an Allied summit from Herr Cobra's flying torpedoes.[37]

The next year, another retaliation strike was operated by Atlantis against an Nazi Antarctica base.

Atlantis' full role in the war remains unrevealed, but Atlantis and its interests were represented at the 1945 postwar Postdam Conference by Namor.[17]

Post-War II[]

Thakorr recovered in 1945 and reclaimed the throne. Influenced by Byrrah, he subsequently banished Namor for his failures at keeping Atlantis safe during the war.[35]

In the following years, Atlantis allied itself with fellow undersea civilization Neptunia, ruled by wartime hero the Fin.[17]

1947[]

In 1947, Thakorr lifted the banishment decree set against Namor for unrevealed reasons.

In early 1947, during the celebrations of the birthday and century rule of Thakoor as emperor, Brian "Stoop" Richards and his gang raided the city, stealing treasure and killing many, among them Thakorr's adopted son (Namora's father). The gang was pursued and punished by Namor and Namora.[35]

Atlantean expansion possibly contributed to unrest among other underwater races (some encountered separately in 1950 by the likes of Marvel Boy (Bob Grayson) or Venus), including the Octopus-Men.[17]

1953-54[]

By 1953, Byrrah launched several attacks against the surface world, culminating in devastation with a 1954 inundation of North America with Arctic ice.[17]

In 1954, Atlantis went to war against South America, thanks to Byrrah's plotting, but the assault was thwarted by Namor who lured the fleet into a trap, then forced them to retreat.[38][verification needed]

By 1954, Thakorr tested Namor's waning powers and restored them to full strength, before sending him resume his one-man war against the surface. Namor produced a few half-hearted attempts and to Thakorr's chagrin, Namor continued opposing Byrrah's would-be war efforts against the surface.[35]

1955[]

The same year, Namor stopped a beginning alliance between Byrrah and communist aggressors, and himself led Atlantean forces against the would-be conquerors, finally curbing Byrrah's aggressive tendencies.

Again the same year,[17] Thakorr allowed Namor to to petition for United Nations membership. The unexpected arrival of the Atlanteans caused panic during which Namor was fired upon, and the bullets bounced off his skin, killing a bystander,[35] Guillaume Trufaut, and Atlantis withdrew again from surface affairs,[17] as a discouraged Namor advised against further interaction with the surface, while General Krang advised that Atlantis should advance their military technology until they could overpower the surface's population. Agreeing with both, Thakorr ordered massive construction projects to improve Atlantis.[35]

During this period, Namor fathered a son, Kamar. His mother was assassinated by an unidentified enemy, and Namor had Kamar sent to safety in a minor Atlantean settlement in the Arctic Ocean.[17]

1958: Destine and the Aqueos[]

In 1958, while Namor investigated attacks on Atlantis by Destiny on the surface, the Aqueos invaded Atlantis. Thakorr personally led soldiers against them, but they all fell in battle, save for the woman later known as the Oudvrou, while Thakorr himself was secretly vampirized, and later became Aqueos highlord.[35]

Within a day of Thakorr's death, Destiny attacked and destroyed Atlantis using the Serpent Crown, killing most of its population (leaving no witness of Thakorr's vampirization), and stripped Namor from his memory,[35] leaving him to wander for decades in New York.[17]

Byrrah's rule as acting emperor (1958-Namor's return)[]

With Thakorr apparently slain, and Namor missing and amnesiac, Byrrah became acting emperor of Atlantis, ruling over a destroyed Antarctic Atlantis and a depleted population.

At some point, a "Shallow Peace" was eventually established with the Aqueos, putting an end to the open hostility between Aqueos and Atlanteans.[35] The Aqueos kept silently raiding Atlantis to feed themselves, but were only rarely witnessed.[12]

It was presumably under Byrrah's orders that sleepers cells of Atlantean warriors were deployed in various states of the US (including New York, California, and Illinois), spending decades waiting for activation.

In 1961, the Atlantean colony of Maritanis was nearly completely destroyed by nuclear testing in 1961.[17]

Due to the sliding timescale, when Namor debuted his rule can vary.

Namor's rule[]

Namor eventually recovered his memories and assumed the throne of Atlantis.[35] Atlantis' throne was regularly left vacant or usurped during Namor's rule.

After much of Atlantis' population was killed after Morgan Le Fay raised the city to the surface, Llyron managed to gather the people together, under his rule. He ordered that all fertile women be implanted with clone fetuses in order to create a powerful army to attack the surface. What became of this plan remains unknown. Llyron was eventually removed from power under unrevealed circumstances, and Atlantis soon elected a new ruler.[39]

Attuma once usurped Atlantis with his barbaric hordes,[40] torturing the Atlantean subjects, plundered and pillaged. Helped by the Defenders, Namor defeated the "Deep Six" and crushed Attuma. He then declared the formation of a Council of Three, composed of Namorita representing the Royal House, Warlord Seth the Atlantean military, and Andromeda the common people.[41]

Atlantean relocation to Utopia[]

For a time, most Atlanteans lived near San Francisco in New Atlantis[42] until it was destroyed.[43]

Return of Old Atlantis[]

They warred with the Homo mermani, before remaining hidden in Old Atlantis, an hidden Antarctic city under Lake Vostok. Ul-Uhar,[29] regent of the Peak and king of the Uhari,[27] fathered thousands of hatchlings, among them the girl Vil and the boy Wu the heirs of Old Atlantis.[29]

Vampire/Mutant War[]

Thakorr, seemingly influenced by his vampiric nature, grew to hate Atlanteans and Namor above other, felling him unworthy to rule Atlantis. Wishing to conquer Atlantis, Thakorr allied with Xarus who had killed his father Dracula. Thakorr was given Dracula's head and placed it in the Vault of Law, an Atlantean artifact who could be opened only by a true ruler of Atlantis. When Namor came to claim the head to help the X-Men against a vampire invasion, Thakorr fought him, and after being cut in half by Namor, put an end to the Shallow Peace and sent Aqueos warriors to New Atlantis,[35] while other slaughtered 30 Atlanteans in a remote reef.

Eventually, the Atlanteans besieged R'llyeh,[12] and most of the Aqueos were destroyed when Namor cast a ritual spell created by Immanu's logomancer Amra, that added excess salt to the waters, purging them,[44] but some escaped the fate of thousands of their fellow Aqueos because Thakorr's blood, used in the spell, was diluted by his vampiric nature.[35] The remaining Aqueos again fell under the detente of the Shallow Peace, while being incorporated within Atlantis' dominion.[44]

Destruction[]

Following the Multiverse's destruction and reformation, the Squadron Supreme, a violent vigilante group formed from the survivors of realities now destroyed and willing to protect the Earth at all costs. Because of Namor's invasions to the surface world, they determined the Atlantean king had to be definitively neutralized. During the ensuing battle, it was chosen by the Squadron to take Atlantis off the world as well to quell any further hostilities with the surface. In order to show mercy, Hyperion gave the Atlanteans some time to evacuate before forcefully crashing their city. Both Namor and Attuma were slain in the battle.[45]

After the destruction of Atlantis, Atlanteans scattered once more, some being taken in as refugees by Australia, while other became scavengers roaming the Ocean.[46]

After Namor's resurrection,[47] Atlantis was rebuilt, fueling its citizens with the optimism that the city could enjoy a bright new era.[48]

After his failures, including the blasphemy of turning surface-dwellers into sea-breathers, or the Phoenix debacle, a coup was considered imminent. The most powerful Atlantean factions, including the Defenders of the Deep, the Sea Blades, the fundamentalist OctoPriests, and the Black Tide, united with for sole affinity their dissatisfaction of Namor, met with Namor at the Atlantean Coliseum of the Bull Shark Matadors at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge to challenge him and claim the Coral Throne of Atlantis, but were interrupted as Red Hulk (Jen Walters/She-Hulk under Red Room conditioning and on Russia's orders) attacked. Her arrival was believed by some to be an omen from Set, as She-Hulk was one of the Brides of Set. Meanwhile, Wolf Spider Spetsnaz forces attacked the Imperial Capital of Atlantis, carrying a Gamma Bomb.[49] The warhead was detonated, with enough strength to wipe the majority of the Atlantean population, but the blast was absorbed by She-Hulk.[50]

Alternate realities[]

In some realities, the kingdom of Atlantis was the direct continuation of the pre-Cataclysmic Atlantis, whether having persisted amidst the cataclysms, or having somehow evaded them (via science, magic, or because said cataclysms were weaker in magnitude or not present in each universe). Please consult the alternate realities of the Empire of Atlantis for more details.
