History
Audumbla was one of the first creatures in existence according to Norse mythology, appearing second after Ymir.[4] She was allegedly conceived from Ymir's melting,[3] but possibly she was Gaea in one of her many guises.[5]
For ages, Ymir and Audumbla wandered on Niffleheim. Ymir was nourished on her milk,[4] while Audumbla found her sustenance in licking the endless ice.[3] At some point, Audumbla reached Andlang, finding the frozen solid Tiwaz, and licked him free.[3][6] In one of the many myths and legends, it is said that Audumbla watched Tiwaz free himself from the ice.[4]
The children of Audumbla where the wild cattle, primal beasts that gave milk and life, however they were gone of the Earth, either killed or tamed by the mortals.[7]
The left horn of Audumbla became the Ragnahorn and fell into the possession of Van Kline.[2]See Also
