Synopsis for "Savage"

The Collector and the Grandmaster come to Earth looking to make a contest with its champions. Wagering each of their Infinity Gems, they bet on which powerhouse can beat the other in a fight, with Collector choosing the Hulk and Grandmaster assuming mental control of Thor to instigate the challenge. The Avengers are in the process of looking for the runaway Hulk in northern Canada when Thor suddenly shoots their own Quinjet out of the sky with lightning before rushing off to attack the jade giant. Hulk fights back at first, but even he can tell something is off with Thor, and eventually spots the Elders spectating. His Banner side convinces him that Thor is just being used, so Hulk gets the idea to transform back to Banner, counting on Thor to resist striking a harmless opponent and break free of control. It works, but Hulk also tells Banner that he didn't really care if it did or not.

The other Avengers catch up and attempt to interrogate the Elders, but with their game spoiled, they don't stick around long before teleporting away. The Avengers notice that Banner also changed back into the Hulk and started bounding off, but Thor argues to let him go for now. Later, Grandmaster and Collector gather alongside other Elders of the Universe to note that the Earth still holds interest to all of them.

  • Includes Character Profiles for Ultron and Enchantress, a file on Mjolnir, a breakdown of Iron Man's HUD, and a quiz to identify villain weapons including Whiplash's whip, Zemo's sword, and Kang's Time Chair.
  • The fourth weapon in the backmatter quiz is identified in the key as "Gravitron's[sic] Anti-Gravity Gun". It actually corresponds to a gun presented by A.I.M. to Lucia Von Bardas briefly at the beginning of Episode 1. Graviton is never associated with it or any similar weapon.
  • First story takes place between Episodes 6 - "Panther's Quest" and 7 - "Gamma World Part 1, as Black Panther has joined the Avengers but Hulk has yet to re-join.
  • Bruce Banner is mistakenly drawn fully-clothed for one panel following his transformation back from the Hulk.
