Quote1 I will say, however, that I am quite glad that the Avengers are together once more - for not too long ago, everyone, including myself, believed the Avengers dead at the hands of a monstrous villain - and the reality of a world without them was very grim indeed. Quote2

Synopsis for "Day of the Remains"

The Ultimator attacks an international delegate at a theater in New York, but is stopped by the Avengers. However, Captain America isn't happy about how the Avengers have been acting recklessly and not as a unit, which upsets Justice in particular. Jarvis, however, is sure that the Avengers will pull through, as they always have. Jarvis then goes about his duties keeping everything in order, such as preparing dinner and ordering Quinjet parts.

That night, Jarvis is approached by Justice, who asks him how the current Avengers team compares to previous ones. Jarvis declines to answer, but does tell Justice a story about what happened after all the core Avengers vanished in the Onslaught incident. Black Widow, the leader of the Avengers, but the only core survivor, tried desperately to recruit a new team, but found all other options unavailable. Faced with her own despair and the looming threat of the government trying to disband the Avengers with all of the founding members gone, Black Widow ultimately decided to formally disband the Avengers. Jarvis solemnly told the Avengers support staff, with Fabian being particularly upset about that.

After the conversation with Justice, Jarvis feels compelled to continue writing a letter to an old friend. However, his writing is interrupted by an attack on New York by four Avengers-themed Sentinels calling themselves the Protectorate. The Avengers go to fight them off, but are again not working as a team and are captured. The Protectorate urge everyone to remain calm as they claim to be protecting them from the "universe of danger" that threatens it. Jarvis realizes that this is a turn of phrase that Fabian started using after the Avengers seemingly died, so Jarvis goes to confront him. In New York, Justice is able to use his powers to free Captain America, who thanks Justice before freeing the others to continue the fight. Jarvis, meanwhile, finds that Fabian has hooked himself up to the Protectorate to keep the world safe like the Avengers did, believing them still to be dead. However, upon seeing how hard the Avengers are fighting to protect people, Jarvis is able to convince Fabian that the Avengers are back. Fabian and Jarvis then power down the Protectorate, and Fabian is taken to receive physical and mental counseling.

Jarvis finishes writing his letter and sends it to Black Widow, telling her that the Avengers' doors are always open.
