Synopsis for "First Date"
On a fall day in New York City, Shela Sexton's friends encourage her over coffee to ask out Brielle. Emboldened by her friends, she invites Brielle to an art exhibit. The two get changed and go to the gallery, discussing the work of Florine Stettheimer. Looking up at a painting of two women separated by a tree, they grasp each other's hands. Later, the pair sit down at an ice cream parlor and share a sudden kiss. Anxious, Shela runs outside, Brielle yelling after her to wait. Sobbing in her room, Shela is not alone, watched over by Emplate. He leaves via a doorway to another realm, where he tells D.O.A. of his new prey - the students of Avengers Academy!

Trivia
Many of the works of Florine Stettheimer are on display in this issue, including Henry McBride: Art Critic (1922), Heat (1919), Picnic at Bedford Hills (1918), Ashbury Park South (1920), and The Cathedrals of Broadway (1929).
The painting that Shela and Brielle hold hands in front of is Florine Stettheimer's Self Portrait with Palette (Painter and Faun).
Bloodline reveals at Niffleheimerschmidt's Ice Cream that she always gets pistachio ice cream, whereas Escapade never gets the same flavor twice.
