Synopsis for "In the Fold"
Escapade is shocked to see Wiccan appear before her, knowing how busy he must be with intergalactic affairs. Magically donning a more casual disguise, the wizard walks with the young heroine as they discuss her potential. Journeying through New York City, Escapade notices malfunctioning clocks while Wiccan recites a Shi’ar riddle. He explains that his mystic powers work scientifically, describing quantum entanglement and how it may be the way her powers operate. Noting her past exploits of stacking her switches, he challenges her to try this again, swapping places with person after person in the plaza below to make her way across. Escapade performs the feat, switching her way to a fountain before they decide to take a break. Bringing her mentor to Niffleheimerschmidt’s Ice Cream, Escapade is shocked when the proprietor Jara refuses to serve Wiccan, insisting to Escapade that this is not her friend. Cover blown, the figure impersonating Wiccan dispatches the Valkyrie, causing her to forget what she has seen. The Reaper reveals himself to Escapade, prophesying the rising of the harvest moon and wiping the girl’s memory, promising to see her soon.
In Japan-occupied Korea during World War II, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker stabs Supreme Hydra Ryuji Hiraoka with the Gorath Stone, inadvertently trapping him within the artifact. He is recovered in the present by a coalition of villains looking to bolster their ranks. Ryuji tells them of a presence encountered in his sojourn, striking fear even in the Gorath. Joining his rescuers, Supreme Hydra and his forces prepare to face the end.
