Synopsis for "A Vengeful God!"
Nebula, given godlike powers by the Infinity Union, plays with her new toys: the Stranger and the Avengers. The Avengers distract Nebula long enough for the Stranger to learn of a way to strip Nebula of her new-found powers. He succeeds and Nebula is depowered and defeated. Unfortunately, with aid from her loyal minion Gunthar, Nebula makes a clean getaway. At Captain America's request, the Stranger teleports the Avengers home.
After the seven Avengers appear in their temporary headquarters in the subbasement of Avengers Mansion, Captain America has Thor take the injured Starfox to the medical lab. When Spider-Man says that he has to go tell his wife that he's just helped save the universe, Cap walks him up. Once on the surface, Cap tells Spidey that he feels his abilities are needed in the war on crime and that he doesn't know if they work best in a group or against the kind of menaces the Avengers fight. When Spidey misses the point he's trying to make, Captain America then says that the Avengers are honored to call Spider-Man a friend, but Cap doesn't think that being a member of the Avengers is best for him. Spider-Man interprets this as him being fired but doesn't argue, instead telling Cap that it's actually kind of a load off as he web-swings away.
Notes
- After history was altered due to the events of One More Day, Spider-Man's mention of his wife would no longer be in continuity.
