Synopsis for "Only Dirt... Six Feet Deep"
Bruce Banner is surprised in his Hulk-proof safe room by his variant from Earth-14325. The alternate Banner is bemused to learn that Bruce still turns into the Hulk when he gets angry. Banner reveals that he’s “cured” his own condition with a lobotomy and a neural implant that his teammates can activate when the Hulk is needed. But the controller was damaged during the team’s skirmish with A.I.M.’s Adaptoids, leaving him without a keeper. As the variant Banner rummages through the safe room for food, Bruce hits him over the head with a wrench. Banner’s eyes begin to glow green.
On A.I.M Island, the Scientist Supreme executes one of his scientists for the Adaptoids’ failure to capture the alternate Avengers. He then orders the other scientists in the room to succeed where their colleague did not.
Meanwhile, the native and variant Avengers teams battle in New York. Iron Man unmasks his counterpart and learns that rather than an alternate Tony Stark, he is a version of Edwin Jarvis who murdered his universe’s Howard Stark and an infant Tony. Iron Man then hits Jarvis with a close-range repulsor blast to the face. Earth-616’s Avengers continue to get the better of their variants until one of the two Hulks arrives. The fight continues until a squad of A.I.M. agents shoots the entire group with a tachyon cell, freezing them inside a time bubble. A.I.M. then extracts the alternate Avengers - including one of the two Hulks - and leaves the native heroes behind.
With their masters occupied, the Explorer-class Adaptoids activate the Auger on A.I.M. Island and enter the portal to explore the multiverse untethered.
