The AGK Corporation was commissioned by the CIA to create an intelligent metal nano-virus capable of enhancing latent mutant abilities. AGK tested the virus on the Bangladeshi village of Malpura, killing four thousand people. Tara Virango survived, but was infected with virus, which granted her superhuman abilities.

While the swarm was in Bangladesh, two visitors from Earth-616 appeared in New York: Warren Traveler and Ms. Marvel. The magician tried to leave Ms. Marvel behind, knowing that the swarm would reach New York in a few minutes and would kill her.
