History

Banker Carson was a banker in Caliber City, Texas during the days of the American Frontier. Seeking riches, he developed the costumed identity of the Phantom Rider to rob stage coaches. He found the opportunity for a fall guy from a local rancher named Haverill whose son Sandy required a $1000 medical treatment on his leg. When Carson denied giving Haverill a loan in his capacity as a banker, Haverill vowed to get the money for his son's treatment no matter what. Carson sent a message to Haverill offering him a means to treat his son. Instead, Haverill witnessed the Phantom Rider rob a coach. The Rider then threatened to kill Haverill's son if he did not agree to help stash the stolen loot. With no other choice, Haverill agreed.

Eventually, the Texas Kid began investigating the robberies and caught Haverill collecting the stolen money. Learning about how Haverill was forced to collect the stolen money and shown the blackmail notes written by the Phantom Rider, the Texas Kid agreed to help Haverill. Having Haverill turned over to the police, Banker Carson was very vocal in implicating Haverill as the Phantom Rider. The Texas Kid then came back disguised as the Phantom Rider and informed them that Haverill was not the outlaw. Shocked to see someone posing as his alter ego, Carson blew his cover by denouncing the "Phantom Rider" as an impostor. The Texas Kid revealed his trick and outed Carson as the Phantom Rider. Carson confessed to his crimes and tried to shoot the Texas Kid but was easily disarmed. Carson was turned over to the sheriff,[1] his subsequent fate is unknown.
